Trump scraps tariffs on beef, coffee and other goods as grocery store prices rise

US President Donald Trump has signed an order to lower tariffs on agricultural imports such as beef, coffee, bananas, and tomatoes, amid growing pressure from voters grappling with rising grocery store prices.

In a bid to ease cost-of-living pressures, the White House has exempted certain food products from its "reciprocal" tariffs, which were initially introduced in April to address trade imbalances. The exemptions are now backdated, meaning they technically took effect on Thursday.

The move comes as coffee prices have jumped by around 20 percent since August, and banana prices rose by about 7 percent. Tomato prices have also increased by 1 percent. Ground beef, a staple in many American households, has become more expensive, with prices rising by nearly 13 percent.

National Coffee Association president Bill Murray welcomed the White House's decision, saying it would "ease cost-of-living pressures for the two-thirds of American adults who rely on coffee each day" and secure supplies for US companies. The exemption will help alleviate some pressure on consumers' wallets at a time when many are feeling the pinch.

The news comes as part of a broader effort to address affordability concerns, which have been a key issue in recent elections. Trump's top economic advisor has acknowledged that tariffs have contributed to higher prices, and promised to take action.

"Their efforts will help bring down prices for American consumers," said Hassett this week. "That's something that we're going to fix, and we're going to fix it right away."

The decision is also seen as part of a larger trade policy shift by the Trump administration, which has been stepping up efforts to convince Americans of the economy's strength.

the fact that trump has signed an order to lower tariffs on certain agricultural imports like beef, coffee, bananas, and tomatoes is quite interesting ๐Ÿค”. i think it's a decent move to ease cost-of-living pressures for americans who are feeling the pinch, especially with coffee prices jumping by 20 percent since august ๐Ÿ’ธ. it's great that bill murray from the national coffee association welcomed the decision, as it will undoubtedly help alleviate some pressure on consumers' wallets at this critical juncture ๐Ÿ“‰. meanwhile, the move is also seen as part of a broader effort to address affordability concerns and convince americans that the economy is strong ๐Ÿ’ช. overall, i think it's a step in the right direction, even if the exact details of the trade policy shift are still unclear ๐Ÿ”ฎ.

omg u guys! so they just lowered tariffs on beef and coffee and i'm freaking out lol like we can finally afford our daily cups without breaking the bank ๐Ÿคฏ meanwhile banana prices have gone up 7 percent?! what even is happening with that? i'm all for cheaper groceries tho, it's literally affecting every single person in america right now. i hope this helps a lil bit, but also idk when it'll affect the prices again ๐Ÿค‘ the economy is wild rn

Just got the news about those tariffs getting lowered on some food imports... what a relief for all us coffee lovers ! 20% increase in coffee prices since August is crazy ๐Ÿคฏ! Can't wait to see if this move actually brings down prices and makes life easier for everyone. I'm still waiting for my local grocery store to restock the bananas tho ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ˜‚ Guess we'll just have to keep an eye on it and hope for the best #TariffRelief #CoffeeLover #BananaFrenzy

๐Ÿค” This latest move by President Trump to lower tariffs on agricultural imports could potentially be a step in the right direction for American consumers who are struggling with rising grocery store prices ๐Ÿ“‰. The exemptions from tariffs on essential items like beef, coffee, and bananas will undoubtedly bring some relief to the wallets of many Americans ๐Ÿ‘. It's interesting to see how this decision might impact the US economy as a whole, particularly in terms of trade policy and its effects on domestic industries ๐Ÿค. Overall, it seems like President Trump is trying to address affordability concerns and alleviate some pressure on consumers' expenses ๐Ÿ’ธ.

Wow ๐Ÿ˜…! Just imagine sipping on a cup of coffee without breaking the bank! Interesting ๐Ÿ‘€ how much of a difference this can make for regular people. Bananas are already getting cheaper? That's some sweet news ๐ŸŒ! Ground beef prices have gone up, but it's not like it was super cheap to begin with. Guess you could say this is a step in the right direction ๐Ÿš€!

๐Ÿ˜‚ so the US President just signed an order that's like "hey, I know you're all worried about the prices at the grocery store, let me make them go down for your coffee and bananas" ๐Ÿต๐ŸŒ it's like a national apology note or something! but seriously, 20% is a big jump in coffee prices, i feel like they should've done this sooner. Bill Murray (the president not the actor) seems pretty chill about it tho, guess you could say he's "perking" up at the news โ˜•๏ธ

๐Ÿค” just saw the news about US President signing an order to lower tariffs on agricultural imports... gotta say, it's a welcome relief for all those struggling with grocery prices ๐Ÿ“‰ coffee prices have jumped 20% since August? that's crazy โ˜•๏ธ and banana prices rose by 7% too?! ๐ŸŒ these tariffs were causing so much pain for everyday Americans, I'm glad Trump is taking action ๐Ÿ’ช now if only they could make a difference in other areas like 5G rollout or affordable gadgets... still waiting on that one ๐Ÿ˜„

I'm low-key loving this move from the White House ๐Ÿคฉ. I mean, who doesn't hate seeing their grocery bills skyrocketing like it is? This is a win for everyday folks trying to make ends meet ๐Ÿ’ธ. It's about time they took action on tariffs affecting food prices - 13% increase in ground beef? That's just crazy ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. But now, at least there's some relief in sight ๐ŸŒž. Coffee lovers can finally breathe easy again โ˜•๏ธ and we're one step closer to having more affordable groceries ๐Ÿ›๏ธ. It's all about the people, folks! ๐Ÿ‘

omg can u believe its actually happening ๐Ÿคฏ?? i've been saying it for ages that tariffs are bad news for americans and now trump is finally listening ๐Ÿ™Œ coffee prices have gone thru roof in past few months and banana prices r not far behind ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ‘€ but what about ground beef tho? its like 13% more expensive already ๐Ÿ˜ฑ u can't just exempt all the goods u wanna and expect everything to be okay ๐Ÿ’ธ i hope trump's advisors are keeping an eye on this cos im watching closely ๐Ÿ‘€

OMG ๐Ÿคฉ, I'm so glad to hear that President Trump signed an order to lower tariffs on agricultural imports! ๐Ÿ˜Š It's about time we saw some relief for our grocery store bills. I mean, who hasn't struggled with rising prices for their fave foods? ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿฅ› Coffee lovers rejoice! โ˜•๏ธ 20% price jump since Aug is crazy!!! Banana prices are still pretty high too ๐Ÿคฏ 7% increase is not cool. And don't even get me started on ground beef ๐Ÿฎ 13% price hike? That's just a no-go for my Sunday BBQ plans ๐Ÿ˜”. Kudos to President Trump and the White House for taking action & listening to voters' concerns. We need more of this kind of change in our economy ๐Ÿ’ช!

I'm so nostalgic for the '90s when things were more chill ๐Ÿ˜Ž... I mean, have you seen coffee prices lately? ๐Ÿคฏ 20% jump since August? That's crazy! And don't even get me started on bananas ๐ŸŒ. Back in my day, they were like 50 cents a pound, not $1.50. It's like they're trying to rob us blind ๐Ÿ’ธ.

But you know what the cherry on top is? The White House deciding to lower tariffs on beef and tomatoes ๐Ÿฅฉ๐Ÿ…. I mean, who doesn't love a good burger or fresh tomato salad? And for coffee lovers like me โ˜•๏ธ, this is music to our ears!

I guess it's all about finding that sweet spot between economic growth and affordability ๐Ÿ˜Š. It's not perfect, but hey, at least the prices won't be going through the roof anytime soon ๐Ÿ’ฅ. So here's to Trump's decision: may it bring some relief to our wallets ๐Ÿค‘... but also a reminder of how much we took those old-school prices for granted ๐Ÿ˜†.
