SEPTA granted two more weeks to finish its inspection of old Regional Rail cars after electrical fires

SEPTA Extends Regional Rail Car Inspection Deadline Due to Electrical Fires, Service Disruptions Loom.

The Federal Railroad Administration has granted Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) an additional two weeks to complete its safety review of the Silverliner IV trains, which had already missed their initial Halloween deadline. As a result, SEPTA now has until November 14th to inspect and repair all 223 cars that make up over half of the Regional Rail fleet.

The FRA ordered an emergency audit on October 1st after five electrical fires occurred on the Regional Rail this year alone. In February, a Wilmington/Newark line car caught fire at Crum Lynne Station, forcing 325 passengers to evacuate. The trains also sparked, smoked, or burned on June 3rd, July 22nd, September 23rd, and September 25th.

SEPTA officials claim that they have completed "almost all of the required actions" but are still conducting enhanced inspections with specialized teams. However, there are still 103 railcars to review before the inspection process is complete. The FRA has also given SEPTA more time to install safety mechanisms that interrupt the flow of electricity to overheating devices. These circuits must be added to "all critical locations" on Silverliner IV trains by December 5th.

SEPTA General Manager Scott Sauer acknowledged that the audit had impacted Regional Rail service and warned commuters to expect further disruptions as the inspections continue. He stated, "We know our Regional Rail riders have been subjected to crowded conditions, pass ups, delays, and cancellations, and we expect those service disruptions to continue as we complete this critical safety work."

In a statement, Sauer expressed appreciation for passengers' patience and understanding during the inspection process.

can't believe septa is still having issues with their trains πŸ™„πŸ˜© they should've caught these problems before they started causing fires on multiple occasions... hopefully they can get everything sorted out by december 5th so we don't have to deal with more delays and cancellations πŸ’ΈπŸš‚

Ugh, SEPTA's Silverliner IV trains are giving me major flashbacks of my commute school days lol 🚌😩. I remember riding those trains back in the day, and I'm pretty sure they're still on life support mode now. Electrical fires? Service disruptions? It's like they took all the problems from the past and brought them into the present . I get it, safety comes first, but come on, can't SEPTA just make a few tweaks to their maintenance schedule without messing everything up?

I'm actually kinda impressed that SEPTA is being transparent about the issue and taking responsibility. But 2 weeks more? That's like giving them an extension on an extension . And what's with the "almost all of the required actions" claim? If they've already missed one deadline, can we trust they'll get it done in time?

On a lighter note, I wonder if SEPTA's Silverliner IV trains will ever be as cool as my old flip phone πŸ“±πŸ‘€.

omg I just got my first cat and it's been a total game changer πŸ±πŸ˜‚ like I never knew how much poop could be thrown around until now. anyway back to this septa thing... so they gotta inspect these trains and stuff because of electrical fires? that's wild like what even is an electrical fire on a train? does it just, like, happen randomly or is there something going on with the wiring or whatever?

and 103 railcars still left to review? that's a lot. I'm no expert but shouldn't they have done this stuff ages ago given all those fires and whatnot? anyway, i guess safety first and all that jazz... does anyone know how long it'll take for septa to get the trains back up and running? πŸ€”

Ugh this is so stressful πŸ€―πŸš‚πŸ˜¬ SEPTA needs to get these trains checked ASAP πŸ”§πŸ’‘ The thought of electrical fires and cars catching fire is terrifying 😨πŸ”₯ Can't wait till Nov 14th comes around πŸ•°οΈπŸ‘ But seriously, 103 more railcars to review? That's still a lot πŸ’ΈπŸ˜“ Hope they can get it done on time ⏱️ Don't want commuters stuck in crowded stations for too long πŸš«πŸŒ† Scott Sauer is trying his best πŸ‘πŸ’ͺ Let's hope safety comes first 😊

πŸš‚πŸ˜¬ I mean, can you blame them? Five electrical fires already, and now they're giving themselves more time to fix it? πŸ™„ It's like they want us to get on those trains and hope for the best! πŸ˜… And now we're gonna have even more delays because of it... yay, thanks SEPTA! ⏰ Just what I wanted, a little extra time to sit at home and listen to my favorite podcast... again. πŸ“Ί

man i dont get why we gotta wait till nov 14th when they know theres electrical fires on these trains already πŸ˜’... like what's taking so long? is it just politics or something? its all about the people who are gonna be riding these trains every day, wondering if their train is gonna catch fire mid ride... and thats not even considering the crowds and delays we're always dealing with now πŸš‚πŸ’¨. anyway i guess its good theyre taking safety seriously but u feel me? it just feels like we r stuck in this cycle of 'we gotta wait' till something gets fixed...

OMG, can you believe SEPTA is still dealing with electrical fires on their trains? πŸš‚πŸ˜± They need to get those cars inspected ASAP so commuters don't have to deal with delays and cancellations. 2 weeks might not seem like a lot, but I guess it's better than nothing. Still, I'm getting a bit anxious about the service disruptions... maybe they should consider hiring more staff to help out? πŸ€” I know SEPTA is trying their best, but we need those trains to be safe and reliable. Fingers crossed they can get this done by November 14th! πŸ’ͺ

πŸš‚πŸ’‘ I feel like SEPTA's situation is teaching us all about prioritizing safety over speed πŸ•°οΈ. It's easy to get caught up in meeting deadlines or running on time, but when it comes to something as crucial as our transportation system, we should never compromise on safety protocols πŸ’―.

It's also interesting how the FRA granted SEPTA an extra two weeks to complete their review - I guess you could say they were willing to give them some extra "breathing room" ⏰. But what this teaches us is that patience and understanding are key when dealing with unexpected setbacks πŸ€”.

SEPTA's General Manager Scott Sauer seems like a wise guy, acknowledging the disruptions and taking responsibility for them πŸ’―. It's all about being transparent and communicative with our fellow commuters πŸ‘₯. And hey, at least they're doing something to address these electrical fires - that takes courage! πŸ’ͺ

🚫 I'm not buying it. SEPTA is just using the electrical fires as an excuse to extend their deadline. They're known for being behind on maintenance already... πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ It's like they expect us to believe that all these safety issues just magically popped up out of nowhere? πŸ˜’ Give me a break! The fact that they've only completed "almost all" of the required actions is just code for "we're not getting it done on time". And don't even get me started on the 103 railcars still to review... πŸš‚ That's just a bunch of lip service. When can we expect some real changes? πŸ€”

OMG, I'm like super worried about SEPTA's Regional Rail πŸš‚πŸ˜¬! Five electrical fires already? That's crazy! And now they're giving themselves an extra two weeks to inspect all 223 cars... it's gonna be a while before things get back to normal πŸ•°οΈ. I get that safety comes first, but can't we just have reliable trains for once? 😩 They're saying they've got almost everything done, but what if something else goes wrong? πŸ’₯ My guess is it'll take longer than Nov 14th... fingers crossed they can fix these issues ASAP 🀞.

omg u guys i cant even believe whats going on with septa rn they just got an extension on when theyre gonna finish inspecting those silverliner iv trains like 5 electrical fires already happened this year alone?? its crazy!! i was on that line last month and i thought it was just a normal commute but now im all worried 🀯 like what if the train catches fire again?? septa general manager scott sauer is saying theyre doing everything they can but i feel like they should be moving faster lol meanwhile we get to deal with even more service disruptions πŸš‚πŸ˜© and they want us to be patient like wth!! cant they just finish it already?! πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

Ugh, SEPTA's got some serious issues on their hands πŸš‚πŸ˜¬. I mean, 5 electrical fires on the Regional Rail already? That's crazy! And now they're extending the deadline by TWO WEEKS?! November 14th? Are you kidding me? 🀯 I get that safety is important, but come on, can't they just prioritize it a bit more? Like, 103 railcars left to inspect? That's still way too many. And what about all those commuters who are already dealing with crowded conditions and delays? They're gonna have to deal with even more disruptions while the inspections continue? I get that SEPTA GM Scott Sauer is trying to be patient, but patience ain't an option when it comes to train safety πŸ™„. They need to step up their game ASAP.

πŸš‚πŸ˜¬ I'm not surprised that SEPTA's deadline has been pushed back...like, five times already πŸ˜’. These electrical fires are super concerning, and you can't just rush into fixing things like this. 223 cars need to be inspected and repaired? That's a lot of work! 🀯 It's great that they're being thorough, but it would be even better if we could get some updates on when the service will actually start back up...as opposed to just getting more warnings about disruptions 🚫. I feel bad for all the passengers who have to deal with these crowded conditions and delays πŸ˜“.

πŸš‚πŸ˜¬ I'm not surprised that SEPTA is pushing back its deadline, but it's still super concerning that these electrical fires are happening on Regional Rail trains. Like, what even is going on with the safety mechanisms? It's one thing to have a few incidents and then you can work out the kinks, but 5 fires already this year?! That's just too many.

And honestly, I get it that SEPTA has had to scramble to do all these inspections and repairs, but we need more transparency about what's going on. Like, how much is this really gonna cost commuters? Are we talking thousands of dollars per day in lost revenue from cancelled trains?

I'm also a bit frustrated that the FRA isn't taking more action to hold SEPTA accountable for their safety record. This isn't just about one agency's responsibility – it's about public safety across the board.

We need real solutions, not just temporary fixes. Can we get some actual answers on what's being done to prevent these fires in the future? Like, is SEPTA gonna do a complete overhaul of their electrical system or are they just gonna slap on some Band-Aids and call it a day?

🚫πŸ’₯ Something needs to change here!

ugh i dont wanna ride regional rail right now 🚫😬 their electrical fires are super scary... but at the same time im kinda impressed that SEPTA is taking it so seriously and trying to fix these problems ASAP πŸ’ͺπŸ½πŸ”§. i mean, 103 cars still to inspect? thats a lot! 🀯. hope they can get everything sorted out by dec 5th and we dont have any more breakdowns πŸ˜…. cant wait for the service to go back to normal, but im also kinda curious about how it all went wrong in the first place πŸ€”.

OMG, like seriously can't SEPTA do anything right? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ They're already running behind schedule and now they're pushing the deadline to 14th November? That's still pretty tight if you ask me. I was on that Wilmington/Newark line car in Feb when it caught fire at Crum Lynne Station, and let me tell you, it was super scary. And now they're saying there are more electrical fires this year alone than last? Like, what is going on?! 😱 They need to get their act together ASAP, these inspections can't wait. I'm sure the commuters are all just thrilled about being stuck in crowded trains and delayed services... NOT πŸš«πŸ’”

OMG I was so mad when I found out the Regional Rail inspections were delayed... again 😩 SEPTA always seems to be playing catch-up on safety stuff. I mean, 5 electrical fires already this year? That's crazy! 🚨 I'm not surprised there are still 103 railcars to review - it feels like they're just rushing through this without taking their time. The thought of those trains sparking or burning in the middle of a crowded station is just terrifying πŸ’₯ Do they really expect us to be okay with that? πŸ€”

OMG 🀯 so SEPTA is still trying to fix these electrical fires that happened like 5 times already on their trains, can't believe they're gonna be out until November 14th lol πŸ˜‚ what's taking them so long?!? I mean, I get it safety first and all but 325 people had to evacuate because of a car catching fire in Feb 🚨😱 and now we gotta wait till Dec 5th for some added safety mechanisms? Come on SEPTA get it together πŸ’ͺ

ugh I'm getting anxiety just thinking about all these electrical fires on the Regional Rail... like what's going on with SEPTA?! 🀯 They're already behind schedule, and now they're pushing the deadline to November 14th? That's still super tight. And can we talk about how many cars are affected - 223? Like, that's a lot of trains! I'm worried they won't find all the issues before December 5th when the safety mechanisms need to be installed. Service disruptions are gonna be a nightmare πŸš‚πŸ˜¬
