Scotland squad for World Cup qualifiers: Lawrence Shankland recalled

Steve Clarke has handed a surprise recall to Heart of Midlothian striker Lawrence Shankland for Scotland's World Cup qualifiers. The 30-year-old is in form, having scored ten goals so far this season with his club team. Clarke says that if you need someone who can score goals, Shankland is the man.

Clarke has praised Shankland, saying he lives on goals and thrives on them. He also highlighted the importance of experienced players, saying Shankland brings a lot of experience to the squad. The Scotland manager wants his team to set up a "cup final" against Denmark in the next World Cup qualifier, with Clarke confident that his side are in good shape despite goalkeeping injuries.

Angus Gunn is missing through injury, so Scott Bain returns for the games against Greece and Denmark. However, Liam Kelly will provide competition for the right-back spot alongside Aaron Hickey. The team has secured their place in the World Cup play-offs already but Clarke wants to secure a win to set up the showdown with Denmark.

In addition to Shankland, defender Ross McCrorie returns to provide cover at right-back. omg u guys i just saw the news about steve clarke recallin lawrence shankland for scotland and i gotta say i'm lowkey hyped lol shankland's been on fire this season with hearts scoring like 10 goals already Clarke says he lives on goals and thrives on them which is literally so true, shankland's got that goal-scoring vibe but what's crazy is clarke wants to set up a "cup final" against denmark lol sounds like he's high on confidence anyway gotta see how the rest of the team shakes out with angus gunn out injured and max johnston ruled out too

I'm literally shaking right now thinking about how underrated Lawrence Shankland is!!! He's like the perfect fox in the box, scoring goal after goal and just dominating games! The fact that Clarke has brought him back in for these qualifiers is pure genius 10 goals this season? No wonder he lives on goals, mate! I mean, who needs a striker when you've got Shankland on the pitch?! Seriously though, it's great to see Clarke giving his players a chance to shine and bring some much-needed excitement to the Scotland team. And with Scott Bain back in goal and Ross McCrorie at right-back, they're looking like a solid unit Now, let's go crush Denmark in that cup final setup!

I don’t usually comment but I think it’s kinda interesting that Scotland's coach Steve Clarke is handing out recalls to players who are on fire with their club teams . Like, Lawrence Shankland is scoring 10 goals this season and he just got called up for the World Cup qualifiers . It makes sense though, Clarke said he lives off goals, so if Shankland can keep that form going, it could give Scotland an edge against Denmark.

I'm curious to see how Scott Bain will do in goal instead of Angus Gunn who's injured . And it's good that there are some healthy competition for the right-back spot with Liam Kelly and Aaron Hickey . But what if Shankland doesn't keep scoring all those goals? Would Clarke stick with him or go for someone else? Either way, I think Scotland has a solid team going into the World Cup qualifiers .

Omg I'm literally so hyped about Lawrence Shankland getting called up to the Scotland squad !! He's been on fire this season with Hearts and Clarke said he lives on goals which is SO TRUE I mean who doesn't love a striker who can score at will? I'm not sure about this one... I mean, if they're gonna go with a striker like Lawrence Shankland who's on fire right now and score 10 goals already, shouldn't they be looking at someone more consistent over the long run? And what's up with these injuries and suspensions? It feels like everyone except Shankland is getting hurt! I get that Clarke wants to set a "cup final" vibe but it's hard to take seriously when the squad's constantly changing. Can we just get some stability for once?

omg can't believe steve clarke is bringing back shankland at this point the guy's in form and that's awesome! but i do wonder if it's just about scoring goals for him? does he care about the team or is he just looking out for himself? also, gotta feel bad for max johnston, hamstring injury is no joke hope he recovers quickly

I'm not sure why Steve Clarke waited until now to bring Shankland back into the fold - maybe he was hoping to keep a secret up his sleeve? Either way, it's good to see some fresh blood in attack for Scotland. With 10 goals already this season, I'd say Shankland is definitely worth the recall. It'll be interesting to see how he fits in with the rest of the squad and whether his goal-scoring form can translate to international level. The return of Ross McCrorie adds depth to defense as well - should make things more manageable for Scott Bain in goal. Fingers crossed they can take down Denmark in the play-off!

omg I'm getting so hyped for the Scotland vs Denmark game!!! I was watching the Hearts game last night and Lawrence Shankland is literally on fire! he's scored 10 goals in like 2 months now... I know some people might think he's old to be scoring that many goals but I say bring it on! Steve Clarke makes a great call in bringing him back for the Scotland team, I mean if you need someone who can score goals, Shankland is defo the man . And btw, Scott Bain is gonna come in handy with Angus Gunn out injured... fingers crossed they win against Greece first and set up that cup final against Denmark!
