Local Berkeley Authorities Nab Richmond Man in Connection with 2024 Gas Station Robbery
A 49-year-old man from Richmond was taken into custody on October 26th in Pittsburg, California, following a lengthy investigation by the Berkeley Police Department. The suspect is accused of robbing a Chevron gas station located on San Pablo Avenue in November 2024.
According to authorities, the suspect entered the store armed with a revolver and threatened the clerk before repeatedly attempting to breach the protected cashier area. Despite initial attempts to intimidate the clerk, the suspect was unable to gain access to the pass-through drawer. Instead, he allegedly pointed his gun at the clerk from this vantage point.
The Berkeley Police Department credits an automated license plate reader for helping identify the suspect's vehicle, which led to a connection with the Marin County Sheriff's Office. In December, investigators discovered that the man they believed was involved in several robberies had used a silver revolver.
Following the identification of the suspect's vehicle, detectives secured a warrant for his arrest in February. On October 26th, the suspect was apprehended in Pittsburg and subsequently booked on multiple charges.
The Berkeley Police Department commended their efforts as "one more example of how technology, coupled with diligence and collaboration, can aid in keeping the public safe while not tolerating senseless gun crimes in our community."
