Rahm Emanuel co-forms Men's Alliance to End Domestic Violence

Rahm Emanuel Announces Men's Alliance to Combat Domestic Violence, Calls on Males to Take Action.

Former Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel emphasized the need for men to confront domestic violence during a speech at the Union Club of Chicago, announcing plans to launch the Men's Alliance to End Domestic Violence through WINGS, Illinois' largest domestic violence assistance provider.

"This is not a women's issue; this is a family issue," Emanuel said, referencing his work in drafting the 1994 Violence Against Women Act with Joe Biden. "If you're a son, brother, cousin, or uncle, you can't just look the other way and think it won't affect you."

The Men's Alliance aims to educate men about recognizing harmful behaviors in relationships and supporting survivors of domestic violence. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in four women experience physical violence from their intimate partners at some point, while one in seven men do so.

Despite an increase in reported cases, with calls to the Illinois Domestic Violence Hotline rising 26% in 2024 compared to the previous year, Emanuel noted that many incidents go unreported. "In their darkest moment, that young woman or old woman needs to know she's not alone," he said, emphasizing the importance of men taking action.

WINGS President and CEO Rebecca Darr added, "We need all of us together...for men to speak out and talk to other men about healthy relationships." Men can sign up for the program by emailing their name and city/state to [email protected].

πŸ€πŸ»πŸ’‘ so i think this is a dope move by Rahm Emanuel! πŸ’― he's right, domestic violence ain't just a women's issue, it's a family thing. we gotta break down the stigma around men being victims of abuse too 🚫 and also support our sisters & daughters who are goin through this πŸ’•

i love how WINGS is leading the charge with this Men's Alliance program 🌟 they're gettin' all sorts of dudes on board to educate themselves and others about healthy relationships 🀝 it's not just about men bein' heroes, but also about breakin' the cycle of abuse πŸ‘Š

let's get these conversations started! πŸ’¬ who's with me? πŸ€—πŸ‘«

This is a huge step forward πŸ™Œ. It's so true that domestic violence affects families, not just women - it's about time we acknowledge that men are also victims of manipulation and emotional abuse in their own relationships. The stats are crazy, one in four women and one in seven men experience physical violence, that's way too high!

I think this Men's Alliance is a great initiative to educate guys about healthy relationships, recognizing the signs of domestic violence, and supporting survivors. We need more men stepping up to be allies and advocates for change 🀝. And it's not just about men taking action, we also need women who are comfortable with vulnerability and openness in their own relationships too. The idea that a survivor feels alone is heartbreaking, but I believe if we all work together, we can create a culture of respect and empathy πŸ’•.

We've got to break down the stigma around domestic violence and make it okay for men (and women) to talk about it, seek help when needed, and support each other 🀝. Let's get those emails rolling in and start creating a safer, healthier world for everyone ❀️

This is such a great initiative πŸ€—! I'm really inspired by Rahm Emanuel's efforts to get more guys involved in tackling domestic violence. It's so true that this isn't just a women's issue, it affects the whole family and community. I've seen so many friends of mine or people on social media share their own experiences with domestic abuse, and it's heartbreaking πŸ€•.

I think it's awesome that WINGS is leading the charge with this new program - education is key, right? If more men can just take a minute to listen, learn about healthy relationships, and support those who need help... that would make such a huge difference πŸ’ͺ. Let's get behind this and create a culture where everyone feels safe and supported ❀️!

I was just thinking about that crazy storm last month in Chicago πŸŒͺ️, you know the one where the tornado warning sirens went off at like 2am? I was lying in bed and my cat started meowing like crazy... anyway, Rahm Emanuel is right on point about this whole domestic violence thing. It's not just some women's issue, it's a family problem. My cousin's wife used to deal with that kinda stuff when we were all teenagers. He never really got involved, but now he's all for it. I'm actually thinking of starting an online community for men to share their own experiences and support each other 🀝. We should get Rahm on the podcast about it, haha, would be a great conversation!

🀯 finally someone's talking about this in a big way! I mean, it's about time we acknowledge that domestic violence affects both men and women, but society's always been so focused on the victims. As a parent, it breaks my heart to think about all those kids who've grown up seeing their dads or uncles act out violent behavior towards loved ones... πŸ˜”

My son just started talking about consent at school and I was like "okay, now we're getting somewhere!" πŸ™Œ But seriously, this is huge. Men taking action, speaking up, and supporting each other to be better partners and family men... it's gonna make a difference! My daughter's been telling me about how she feels powerless when her friends are in abusive relationships (I'm still getting used to having the "dad" conversations πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ). If we can get more guys on board, maybe we can flip that script and create some real change πŸ’ͺ.

I'm loving this initiative! 🀝 I think it's so important that guys like Rahm Emanuel are speaking up about this issue, 'cause often we forget that domestic violence affects men too πŸ’”. We need more men to step up and support their partners and loved ones who might be going through a tough time. It's not just about women being victims, it's about creating healthy relationships for everyone 🀝.

I'm also thinking... we should draw a diagram of what healthy relationships look like πŸ“
```
+---------------+
Communication
(Active Listening)
+---------------+
Respect Boundaries
(Personal Space)
+---------------+
Support Each Other
(Emotional & Financial)
+---------------+
```
We need to encourage men to speak up and talk about these issues, just like Rebecca Darr said πŸ—£οΈ. We can all make a difference, one conversation at a time πŸ’¬!

πŸ€” This is a classic case of them trying to get more people involved, but I'm not buying it πŸ™„. It's all about controlling the narrative. They're painting men as the villains here, making us look bad for something that we've always known was wrong πŸ˜’. What's really going on is they want to shift the focus away from the real issues and onto us πŸ‘Š. And have you seen the stats? One in seven men? That's a whole lotta men who are supposedly "problematic" πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. I'm not saying we shouldn't care, but let's not be fooled by this PR stunt πŸ’ͺ. There's more to it than meets the eye πŸ‘€.

I think this is a super positive move, you know? πŸ™Œ Rahm Emanuel's initiative to get men involved in stopping domestic violence is long overdue. It's not like women are trying to tackle it alone (although they are making huge strides). The stats on how common abuse is between partners are crazy - one in four women and one in seven men! That means we all have a role to play here.

I think it's awesome that Emanuel is emphasizing this isn't just a women's issue, but something everyone should care about. We need more conversations like this around healthy relationships and how to support the people we love (or not love).

It's also great that WINGS is leading the charge on this. They've been doing amazing work for years, and now they get to expand their reach with some awesome new programs. And honestly, who wouldn't want to be part of a program that helps end domestic violence? 🀝

I think this is a super good idea! Guys gotta step up and be allies, you know? I mean, domestic violence isn't just some lady problem, it's like, family stuff too 🀝. My partner got into a situation with someone last year and it was so eye-opening to see how hard it can hit the men in their life. They gotta listen, support each other... all that jazz πŸ’•. I'm actually planning on talking to my mate about this and seeing what we can do together 🀝. We should all be doing more, you know?

🀝 guys gotta step up, you cant just ignore the fact that domestic violence is a huge deal and its not just women who are affected 🌎 men are just as likely to be victims too! we need more awareness and support for all survivors πŸ™ Emanuel's initiative is a good start, but it should be more than just an "alliance" - lets see some real action and change πŸ’ͺ

This is a super important step forward πŸ™Œ! I'm glad Rahm Emanuel is taking on this issue, it's not just about women, it's about families and communities coming together to support each other. I think it's awesome that the Men's Alliance will be educating men about recognizing signs of domestic violence and supporting survivors - it's time for us guys to step up and be allies 🀝. It's crazy to think that one in four women experience physical violence, that's just ridiculous 😱. I'm definitely signing up for this program, I want to make sure I know how to support my friends, family members who might be going through this. Let's get men talking about healthy relationships and ending domestic violence once and for all πŸ’¬!

I gotta disagree with this whole thing πŸ€”. I think it's a total waste of time and resources. Why should men be forced to "take action" and educate themselves on recognizing "harmful behaviors in relationships"? It just sounds like they're being guilt-tripped into doing something that doesn't necessarily require them to do anything more than their current selves πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. And what about the men who are actually victims of domestic violence? Are we just gonna sweep 'em under the rug too? I don't think so... maybe?

Its so great 2 hear Rahm Emanuel takin on this super important issue ! πŸ™Œ I mean, domestic violence isnt just a women's problem, its a family prob & we need all hands on deck 2 tackle it. Its awesome that hes startin somethin like the Men's Alliance 2 educate men & get them involved in supportin survivors. I think its especially cool dat Rebecca Darr is bringin up the point about men speakin out & talkin 2 other men about healthy relationships πŸ’¬ We gotta break down those stereotypes & toxic guy norms, you know? Its time 4 a change & I'm hyped 2 see Rahm Emanuel takin this on.

I'm totally on board with this! πŸ™Œ The fact that Rahm Emanuel is taking initiative to address domestic violence, which affects not just women but entire families, is a game-changer. I mean, we've all seen those heartbreaking stories about men getting arrested for being the abusers – it's time for us to take responsibility and be part of the solution.

It's crazy that one in four women experience physical violence from their partners, while one in seven men do too 🀯. We need to create a culture where men feel comfortable speaking up and supporting those affected by domestic violence. I love how Emanuel is emphasizing that this isn't just a women's issue – it's a family issue.

I'm excited to see the Men's Alliance taking shape, with programs like WINGS leading the way. It's amazing how we can all make a difference, from educating ourselves about healthy relationships to being an ally for survivors. Let's do this! πŸ’ͺ

I gotta say, I'm all about this! A guy like Rahm Emanuel, who's been around the block a few times, is finally starting to shine some light on something that needs attention - and it's not just women who are affected by domestic violence πŸ™Œ. It's time for us guys to step up and take action, you know? I mean, we've all seen those movies where the guy's got a "tough guy" exterior but secretly he's a total wimp when it comes to dealing with his partner πŸ˜‚. But seriously, this is about being a real man, not just some macho stereotype.

And Emanuel's right, it's not just women who are affected - men can be victims too! 🀝 I remember watching these movies where the guy gets beat up by his GF and nobody cares, but now we're starting to see more awareness around this. It's about time we break down those toxic stereotypes and encourage our dudes to speak out against it.

It's great that Emanuel is using his platform to raise awareness and get men involved in the conversation πŸ“’. And WINGS is doing amazing work, providing support to survivors and educating them about healthy relationships. Let's hope more guys step up and join this movement πŸ’ͺ!

I don’t usually comment but I think this is a pretty cool idea πŸ€”. I mean, domestic violence is definitely not just a women's issue, it affects everyone in some way. Men need to step up and take action because, like Rahm Emanuel said, if you're a man in the family, you can't just ignore what's going on. I've known people who have been affected by domestic violence and it's super scary and isolating, so anything that can help change that is a good thing 🌟. It's not just about educating men but also getting them to speak up with their friends and family too πŸ‘Š. Sign me up for the program, I think we all need to be more mindful of our relationships and look out for each other 🀝

I'm glad to see Rahm Emanuel takin' on this serious issue πŸ™Œ. Domestic violence is a huge problem, especially when it affects both men & women, but often gets overlooked. I think it's awesome that he's creatin' an alliiance just for men to get 'em involved in the fight against it πŸ’ͺ. It's true, it's not just a women's issue, it's a family issue, & we need everyone's help to make a diffrence 🌎. The stats are scary - 1 in 4 women experience physical violence, that's crazy! We gotta keep pushin' for awareness & support πŸ“’. I'm defiinitly signn up for this program, who's with me? πŸ‘
