Pippin review – Stephen Schwartz's wondrous songs still cast a spell

I dunno why ppl are being harsh on this Pippin remake 🤔... I think it's pretty cool that they're trying something new and different with the show. The way the ensemble is framed like a bunch of traveling players just adds to the sense of whimsy and magic ✨. And Lewis Edgar as Pippin? He's not bad, even if his delivery can be a bit all over the place at times 🎤. I mean, it's not like they're trying to recreate Bob Fosse's choreography exactly or anything, that's just gonna happen naturally with this type of show. The costumes and lighting are on point too, Hannah Danson is killing it as costume designer! 🌟 And let's be real, the music is still catchy and beguiling, even if some people are nitpicking about the "lack of darkness" 😒. Overall, I think Pippin is a great show that's worth checking out, it's all about finding meaning in weird and wonderful ways 💫

omg i'm literally OBSESSED with the new pippin production!!! 🤩 the way they reimagined it for this fringe venue is so genius, like who wouldn't want to watch a group of traveling players recount their own tales? 😂 emily friberg as leading player tho, she's giving major steven schwartz vibes and lewis edgar's performance as pippin is just perfect 🌈 gotta say, the songs are still on point, even if they toned down the malevolence a bit. bob fosse's choreo for the manson trio though, that's some 70s magic right there 🔥 and clare brice's berthe? game. changer 👯‍♀️

I gotta say, I'm a bit underwhelmed by this reimagined Pippin... it feels like they're trying too hard to be quirky and artsy 🤪. I mean, I love Bob Fosse's choreography as much as the next guy, but some of these costumes are just straight-up weird 👗. And don't even get me started on how they butchered the lead actor's performance - it's like they cast a random dude from the audience and expected him to bring it 💥. But hey, at least the music is still catchy, right? "Cats fit on the window sill" is still stuck in my head 🎶...

🎭 just saw the reimagined Pippin at this fringe venue and I'm OBSESSED 🤩! The band of travelling players framing device is pure GENIUS 🤓, it adds this air of unpredictability to the whole show. And can we talk about Lewis Edgar's acting skills? He's got some serious range playing the lead role, even if his portrayal of Pippin can feel a bit disjointed at times 😐. But overall, I'm loving the whimsical storytelling and the nostalgic vibes from 70s flair 🕺. The music is still giving me LIFE 💖, especially "Morning Glow" - Simple Joys at its finest! 👏 And that supporting cast? 🔥 Clare Brice as Berthe is giving me LIFE too, her energy on stage is infectious 🤩. If you're a fan of musicals or just looking for something new to get lost in, Pippin's your ticket ✈️

I just watched the new production of Pippin and I gotta say, it was like they took all the messy, crazy bits that make the show so lovable and amplified them. The casting is spot on, especially Emily Friberg as the Leading Player - she's got this commanding presence that's just captivating to watch. And Lewis Edgar's performance as Pippin? Well, he's a bit of an oddball, but in a good way 😂. I loved how they framed the show like it was these performers telling their own stories, it added this whole new level of intimacy and weirdness to it. The music is still magic, even if some of the darker stuff got lost in translation. Overall, it's a super fun and quirky take on a classic show 🎭
