Pingree Detroit is opening its first flagship store - Detroit Metro Times

Pingree Detroit to Open First Flagship Store in Downtown Detroit, Bringing Worker-Owned Business Model and Military Veteran Support to the Community.

A decade after its inception, Pingree Detroit, a local footwear business, is set to open its first flagship store at 22 W. Columbia St. in downtown Detroit, just around the corner from the Fox Theater and within "The District Detroit" development surrounding Little Caesars Arena. The company, which is cooperatively owned by its workers, will officially open its doors on Veteran's Day (Nov. 11) at 11 a.m.

Pingree Detroit has built a reputation for creating unique footwear and accessories from upcycled auto materials, with the goal of reducing waste in landfills. Since its founding in 2015, the company has diverted over 55,000 pounds of leather, vinyl, and seat belts from landfills to create handcrafted products. This commitment to sustainability is just one aspect of the business model that sets Pingree Detroit apart.

The company's worker-owned model not only fosters a sense of community but also provides economic stability for its employees. "Worker-ownership isn’t just a feel-good idea, it is an economic survival strategy," said co-founder and CEO Jarret Schlaff. "When people have real ownership, they stay, they persevere, and they build. That’s how we’ve thrived for the last 10 years, and how we’ll grow for the next 100."

In addition to its commitment to sustainability and worker-owned model, Pingree Detroit has a strong focus on supporting U.S. military veterans. The company makes shoes and bags out of upcycled auto materials, with a portion of its profits being shared or reinvested locally.

The flagship store will not only serve as a retail space but also as a showroom and workshop where customers can watch Pingree Detroit workers create products and even meet the makers on "Footwear Fridays." Furthermore, the company is set to host a pop-up event inside Little Caesars Arena on November 10th in celebration of the Red Wings' 100th season.

By opening its first flagship store in downtown Detroit, Pingree Detroit aims to reconnect people with the hands and hearts behind what they buy. Every purchase supports Veterans and Detroiters who are building opportunity and impact right here in their own neighborhoods.

I'm so stoked that Pingree Detroit is finally opening up a brick-and-mortar store in downtown Detroit, but have you guys done your research? I mean, it's not like they're just walking into the market without planning, right? 🤔 They've been building this business model for 10 years and diverting over 55k pounds of waste from landfills is pretty impressive. And let's give props to Jarret Schlaff for saying that worker-owned model isn't just a buzzword, it's a survival strategy for economic stability. I'm all about supporting businesses like Pingree Detroit that prioritize sustainability and community building. The fact that they're creating jobs for U.S. military veterans is the icing on the cake 🎉.

This is so cool 🤩 that Pingree Detroit is opening a flagship store in downtown Detroit! Not only will it be a great spot for people to check out unique footwear and accessories, but it's also super cool that the company is worker-owned and committed to sustainability. I love that they're making shoes and bags from upcycled auto materials - it's like they're giving old stuff a new life 🌎. The fact that they're supporting U.S. military veterans too is amazing ❤️. It's all about building community and creating economic stability for the people who make the products, which is really admirable. Can't wait to see what kind of creative stuff they'll be making in their workshop 👠💡.

omg i love this!!! pingree detroit is literally doing everything right 🙌 first of all, their commitment to sustainability is amazing - upcycling old auto parts into shoes and bags is genius 💡 and it's so cool that they're diverting over 55k pounds of waste from landfills. as for the worker-owned model, i think it's so refreshing to see a company prioritizing its employees' well-being 🤝 jarret schlaff's quote about economic survival strategy is SO TRUE - when people feel invested in their work, they stay and thrive 💪

I love this!! 😊 It's so cool that Pingree Detroit is opening a flagship store in downtown Detroit, especially since it's worker-owned and focused on sustainability. I've been seeing the Red Wings games at Little Caesars Arena with my kiddo 🏒️, so it'll be awesome to check out their pop-up event there! 👍 As a parent, I appreciate that they're supporting local veterans and giving back to the community. It's all about teaching our kids the importance of kindness and compassion towards others, right? 😊

I'm not sure about this worker-owned business model... sounds too good to be true 🤔. I mean, how sustainable is it really? Are they just spreading the word without actually making a change? And what's with the military veteran support aspect? Is that just a marketing gimmick or are they genuinely helping people out? 🤑 Also, upcycled auto materials might not be as eco-friendly as they claim... what about the production process and waste management after the products are sold? Can't we just stick to regular businesses for once? 😒

I think this is a super cool move for the community! 🤩 Creating a flagship store that's not only eco-friendly but also empowers its workers is a great way to promote economic growth and stability. I love how Pingree Detroit is supporting U.S. military veterans by using upcycled auto materials in their products - it's a great example of innovation and social responsibility. The fact that they're hosting workshops and pop-up events where customers can meet the makers is also a genius idea! It's like, you get to wear your values on your sleeve (literally!) 😊

Ugh, sounds like a great idea for sustainable footwear, but have you seen the job market in Detroit? Like, 55k pounds of waste diverted from landfills is cool, but what about all those workers who can't afford to work for a company that's basically just paying itself back through employee wages 🤑. And don't even get me started on the fact that it's a decade late to the game... Meanwhile, the city is still struggling with poverty and inequality. Not saying Pingree Detroit isn't doing good things, but let's not sugarcoat the bigger issues here 😐.

🤔 I'm telling you, this is too good to be true... a company that's literally owned by its workers and makes shoes out of old car parts? Sounds like some kinda conspiracy to me 🤑. Like, what's really going on here? Are they trying to distract us from something else? Maybe they're using this "worker-owned" model as a cover for something more sinister... 💼

And don't even get me started on the military veteran thing. It's just too convenient that they're using upcycled materials and supporting vets at the same time. What's really behind all this pro-vet propaganda? Is it some kinda government-backed scheme to brainwash us into thinking we need to support our "heroes"? 🤷‍♂️

But you know what the biggest red flag is? The fact that they're opening a flagship store in downtown Detroit right next to Little Caesars Arena. That's just too suspicious. Are they trying to create some kinda propaganda machine or something? I mean, come on... 😏

idk about this whole worker-owned thing... i mean, its cool that pingree detroit is trying to create a sense of community among its employees but isn't it kinda naive to think that just because people have ownership, they'll stay loyal and not leave? like, what if the workers are struggling or need better pay/ benefits? shouldn't we be looking at ways to support them more than just giving them ownership stakes 🤔

🌟💖 pingree detroit is gonna change the game! 🎯 i'm lovin the idea of a worker-owned business model where employees get to own part of the company 🤝 it's all about community and stability for the workers, which means better products too 👠👜

and let's not forget about the sustainable aspect 🌿🌸 upcycling auto materials is genius! 💡 reducing waste in landfills is so important, and pingree detroit is leading the way 🚀

supporting u.s. military veterans is also super cool 🙏🕊️ it's awesome that a portion of profits goes back to the community 🌈

i'm hyped for the pop-up event at little caesars arena 🎉 and the showroom/workshop where customers can meet the makers 👣💼 can't wait to check out the flagship store in downtown detroit! 📍👞

OMG 🤩 Pingree Detroit is a total game changer! 🔄 I love that it's worker-owned 💼, it's like, so cool 😎 to see people having real ownership and being able to thrive economically 💸. And they're doing this crazy sustainable thing with upcycled auto materials 🚗💖. Like, 55k pounds of waste diverted from landfills is no joke 🙌. Plus, supporting military veterans 🕊️ is super admirable. I'm so down for the pop-up event at Little Caesars Arena on Nov 10th 🎟️ and "Footwear Fridays" 🤝 where you can meet the makers 🤓. Downtown Detroit is gonna get a serious cool factor boost 💃 with this new flagship store 🏢
