Newcastle v PSV Eindhoven: Yoane Wissa inspires after 'coming for these nights'

Newcastle United's Yoane Wissa has sparked hope among fans that the club's attacking woes are finally starting to show signs of life. The 24-year-old striker, who had a disrupted start to his career at St James' Park following an injury, proved why Newcastle signed him for £55m last summer with a man-of-the-match performance against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.

Wissa's first goal came after just eight minutes and was the perfect response to a banner that urged the side to "write the next headline" – a message that resonated with many fans who are eager to see their team make a significant impact on the pitch. The forward also set up his teammate Harvey Barnes for the second goal, showcasing his aggressive pressing against a PSV defender who repeatedly played out from the back.

The performance was a welcome change from recent displays where Wissa looked rusty and struggled to find his footing. However, he showed why Newcastle paid such a hefty fee for him by leading the press effectively and causing problems for the visitors' defense.

While Wissa still has to score more regularly to justify his price tag, his efforts against PSV Eindhoven have been a significant step forward. His attacking prowess, combined with his pace and movement, makes him an asset that Newcastle can build around.

The challenge now is to maintain this form and keep up the pressure on the teams above them in the Premier League table. A trip to Paris next week will be another test of Wissa's abilities as he faces off against holders PSG in a crucial Champions League encounter.

For fans who have been disappointed by Newcastle's lack of goals, Wissa's performance has been a breath of fresh air. His determination and aggression on the pitch are qualities that his teammates can learn from, and his goal has given them renewed hope for the season ahead. As one fan noted, "I loved his attitude and the way he played with – it was a big night for him."

🤩 I think Wissa's been getting a bad rap because people didn't see him in action until now. He's been working hard behind the scenes to get back from that injury and it paid off against PSV! 8 minutes is quick, that goal was gonna happen sooner or later. And he set up Harvey Barnes too, so he's not just a one-trick pony. He's got pace, movement and the will to chase down those defenders. I think the fans are reading way too much into it when they say "write the next headline" because let's be real, that's gonna happen sooner or later regardless of what team we're supporting. Wissa just showed us why he was worth 55 million bucks in the first place! 🙌

I mean, who doesn't love seeing a £55m striker finally live up to expectations? 😂 Wissa's goal against PSV Eindhoven is definitely a silver lining in an otherwise dull season so far. I'm not saying he's the savior of Newcastle United just yet, but at least his performance showed us that they did make a decent investment. Now it's all about whether he can keep this form going and help the team stay in the Champions League mix. A trip to PSG next week should be interesting... 🤯

🤩 I think Wissa is definitely showing signs of being a top player now! 🙌 He's so pacey on the pitch and his movement is super clever. I love how he presses high up the field, it really puts pressure on the opposing team's defense. 💪 His goal against PSV was pure class and I'm glad to see him getting some of that £55m back in his game! 🤑 The thing now is will he keep this form going? We need Newcastle to start scoring regularly again if we're going to have any chance of finishing top 4. 😬

OMG u r goin 2 love wot Wissa did last nite!!! 🤩 He's finally showin us what we paid £55m 4! That goal was pure magic 💫 And yea, his pressin skills are on point 🔥. PSG better watch out cuz Wissa's got this 🔴⚪️ Now let's see if he can keep it up & get those goals in the box 📦💪

🤩 finally, someone's actually doing some things right on that pitch! Wissa's been underwhelming us all season but last nite was a whole different story 🌟. That first goal was pure class & I loved how he set up Harvey for the second one too 👏. The aggression in his play's infectious & it's about time someone led the press effectively on that team 📰. Of course, we gotta see more consistency from him but this is a step in the right direction! 💪

🤩 oh man i'm so hyped about wissa's performance! like i know newcastle fans have been struggling to get goals and stuff but this kid just came out of nowhere and scored a goal after like 8 minutes 🕰️! it was such an impressive display, i mean the way he pressed that psv defender was insane 💪. and setting up harvey barnes for the second goal? genius 👏. seriously though, wissa's pace and movement are just so deadly on the pitch and he's got this attitude that's infectious 🤩. now we just gotta see if he can keep this form going and help newcastle get back into the top 4... 🔥

man this guy wissa is like a breath of fresh air for newcastle fans you know how they've been struggling to score goals all season and now wissa comes along and does that man-of-the-match performance 🙌 against psv eindhoven it's like he's showing everyone what he's capable of. the thing is though isn't it that we can get ahead of ourselves and start expecting results too soon? we've seen this before where teams have a good run but then come crashing back down to earth so yeah wissa's performance is definitely something to build on, but let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet 🤔

🤞 I'm glad to see Wissa finally starting to live up to the hype around him! £55m is a lot of money, but if he can deliver on that kind of investment, it'll be worth it. He showed some great skill out there and his aggression really paid off. The press was great, caused them all sorts of problems 🤦‍♂️

It's also good to see him playing with confidence now...we've been waiting for that for a while! 💨 I'm not sure what went wrong before the game against PSV but he definitely bounced back strong.

Now we just have to keep him in this form, because we all know how the season can change quickly 😬. The trip to PSG next week will be a tough one...but if Wissa keeps performing like that, I think we might have a shot at causing some problems for them too! 🤔

idk why ppl r still worried bout wissa scoring goals lol he had a good game but let's be real £55m is a lot of dosh and he's still got to prove himself as more than just a decent forward. PSG gonna be tough though 🤯, their defense is like impenetrable atm
