NASA Awards Massive Contract for Virginia Launch Range Operations
In a major move, NASA has awarded a lucrative contract to ARES Technical Services Corporation for launch range operations support at its Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia. The estimated $339.8 million deal, which could be worth up to $1 billion if all options are exercised, will have a one-year base period starting on February 10 and extend through 2031.
Under the contract, ARES Technical Services Corporation will provide launch range operations support services including radar, telemetry, logistics, tracking, and communications for various types of vehicles such as rockets, aircraft, satellites, balloons, and unmanned aerial systems. The company will also offer information and computer systems services, testing and installation of communication systems at launch facilities, and maintenance of range technology.
The scope of work is broad and will take place primarily at NASA Wallops with additional support from the Bermuda Tracking Station in Bermuda, Poker Flat Research Range in Alaska, and other temporary locations. The contract features a mix of cost-plus-fixed-fee and firm-fixed-price pricing structures.
NASA officials are confident that this partnership will provide critical support for launch range operations at Wallops Flight Facility.
