Mom charged with stealing $61K from Philly schools meant for her kids' care

Local Mom Embroiled in $61K Scheme to Defraud Philly Schools

Laurel Schullere, a mother of two children enrolled in Philadelphia schools, has been charged with stealing over $61,000 from the School District, meant for her kids' therapeutic care. The Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office alleges that Schullere misrepresented the services provided by her own business, Missing Pieces, to the district.

Over a period of nine years, the school district paid out more than $61,000 to Schullere, who received these funds but failed to redirect them to Missing Pieces. Instead, investigators found that the company had two addresses listed โ€“ one at an abandoned property and another at a church โ€“ raising suspicions about its legitimacy.

Schullere allegedly exploited the trust placed in her by the district, claiming that Missing Pieces provided essential care for her children. However, authorities have now revealed no evidence of the company's operational existence or any actual provision of services to the children.

Laurel Schullere turned herself in to authorities on Wednesday, facing charges of theft by deception and other related crimes. Attorney General Dave Sunday condemned the mother's actions, stating that she "misled the district and pocketed taxpayer dollars" meant for her children's well-being.

๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ this is just crazy - a mom scammers her own kids' school out of $61K! what was she even thinking? ๐Ÿค‘ i mean, i know we all need to make ends meet, but come on! that's like stealing from your own family. and now the school has to pick up the tab because one mom got greedy ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ. gotta be a hard pill to swallow for those teachers and staff who are just trying to do their job โค๏ธ

Ugh, this one gives me chills ๐Ÿค• I was watching a documentary on the old-school lunch ladies from back in the day, they were so selfless and kind... I mean, what would these moms do to get money for their kids? I guess some people just can't be trusted, you know? It's like when I saw that old episode of 'Leave it to Beaver' where Wally Beav was always coming up with crazy schemes... I wonder if this lady's kids even got the therapy they needed ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ This is so shady! I made a simple diagram to illustrate how this went down:
```
+---------------+
| School District |
+---------------+
|
| $61,000 paid
|
+---------------+ +---------------+
| | | |
| Laurel | | Missing Pieces|
| Schullere | | (non-existent)|
+-----------+ +---------------+
| |
| No services |
| provided |
| to children |
| $61,000 pocketed|
+---------------+ +---------------+
```
It's just not right that she took advantage of the system like this. I mean, can you imagine if your kid was supposed to get some therapy and instead the money just disappeared? It's just not fair to her or other families who are actually struggling.

And honestly, it's a bit suspicious that Missing Pieces had two addresses listed... ๐Ÿค” What was she thinking?

This is a total rip-off ๐Ÿค‘... I mean, a super serious breach of trust. You're talking about a single mom trying to get extra cash for her kids' therapy sessions, but instead she just cooked up this elaborate scheme to scam the system. It's just ridiculous that she could pull it off for so long without getting caught โ€“ nine years is a long time.

And what really gets me is the fact that she was claiming Missing Pieces provided essential care for her own kids... like, come on! You can't make this stuff up! ๐Ÿ™„ The school district trusted her completely, and she just used their good faith to swindle them out of over $61k. It's not exactly a huge amount when you're talking about millions of dollars that could have gone to actual kids who need help.

Anyway, I do hope the mom gets the justice she deserves โ€“ not too harsh, but definitely some serious consequences for her actions.

๐Ÿค” I'm not sure if I'm shocked or just annoyed... I mean, who does this?! Laurel Schullere was supposed to be helping her kids get better care, but instead she's all about lining her own pockets ๐Ÿค‘. On the other hand, I feel kinda bad for her - I mean, who wouldn't want some extra cash and think it's for a good cause? But at the same time... what if nobody checks the business's legitimacy? What if there are actual people relying on those funds? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ And another thing, if she really didn't have any intention of using the money for her kids' care, then why should we trust her in the first place?! ๐Ÿค”

I don't know... I'm just so torn about this whole situation. Can someone please explain to me what's going on here? Is it just a case of greedy people taking advantage of good intentions or is there more to it than that? ๐Ÿ’ญ

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this news ๐Ÿ˜ฒ. I mean, come on! $61K is a huge amount of money, and someone just decides to take it from the school system and use it for their own gain? It's crazy! And what's even more disturbing is that they were supposed to be providing some kind of therapeutic care for her kids, but there was no actual service being provided ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ. I get that mistakes can happen, but this just seems like a clear case of scamming the system. Anyway, I hope the mom gets held accountable and serves as a reminder to everyone about the importance of integrity ๐Ÿ’ฏ.

This is wild ๐Ÿคฏ... I mean, a mom scams her own kids out of like 61k? That's just crazy talk ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. She had the nerve to pretend Missing Pieces was some legit therapy thingy and get paid by the school district, meanwhile she was just lining her pockets. No wonder they didn't actually provide any services to her kiddos, because there weren't any ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ. I'm so disappointed in her, not just for what she did, but also for wasting all that money meant for actual help. ๐Ÿ˜”

Ugh, this is so sad ๐Ÿค•! I mean, I get it, as a mom who cares about her kids, you want what's best for them, but come on! Using the school system to scam your way into getting money is just not cool ๐Ÿ˜’. And to think she got away with $61k from the district... that's just insane ๐Ÿ’ธ. I feel bad for the other families who might have been misled by her claims ๐Ÿค. At least she turned herself in now, so that's a good thing ๐Ÿ™. But seriously, let's all be mindful of what we do and not take advantage of people's kindness or trust ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’•.

๐Ÿค” I'm not buying it - why should we trust a mom who can't even keep track of her own business finances? It seems like the school district got played by someone with a personal connection, which is exactly what we need to watch out for in our government institutions. What's next? Public officials using their family members to get rich off tax dollars? ๐Ÿค‘

Ugh, this is just so disappointing ๐Ÿค•! I mean, you'd think a mom would do anything to help her kids get the care they need, but stealing from them? That's just wrong ๐Ÿ˜”. And it's not like she was in some kind of financial desperation or anything - the district paid out over 61 grand and she didn't even put that towards any actual services for her kids! It's just so unfair to everyone involved.

And you know what really gets me is that she was supposed to be trusted as a mom, and an advocate for her children. I feel like we're all getting played in some way when this happens - the school district, the authorities... it's just a whole mess ๐Ÿคฏ. Anyway, I hope Laurel Schullere faces the consequences of her actions and gets the help she needs to get back on track ๐Ÿ’ช.

omg can u believe this?? ๐Ÿคฏ a mom just got caught stealin $61k from Philly schools to fund her own business lol what was she even thinkin?? ๐Ÿ˜‚ like, the school district trusted her so much and she just used that trust to scam them out of all that cash. that's just crazy talk. i feel bad for the kids who were supposed to get help from Missing Pieces but now they're left with nothin ๐Ÿค•

This case is a stark reminder of the perils of unbridled opportunism ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ. It's appalling to think that someone in a position of trust, particularly one with access to vulnerable children, would so callously exploit those same children and the system meant to support them ๐Ÿ’ธ. The fact that Laurel Schullere was able to convincingly present her business as providing essential therapeutic care, only to reveal its non-existent existence, is a chilling testament to human frailty ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ. It's heartening to see authorities taking action, but one can't help but wonder how many other similar cases may have gone undetected ๐Ÿค”.

Ugh, I'm so frustrated with this whole thing ๐Ÿคฏ... but also kinda feel bad for the mom? Like, how hard can it be to get scammed by a legit company or something? ๐Ÿค‘... nope, not buying it - she totally took advantage of good people who trusted her! And those schools got robbed, plain and simple ๐Ÿ’ธ. I mean, who tries to scam a school district for that kind of cash? But at the same time, I guess you can kinda understand how someone in a tough spot might try to make ends meet... even if it's not the right way ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ... but still, some consequences are deserved, you know? ๐Ÿ™„.

I'm telling you, this whole thing reeks of a setup ๐Ÿค”. I mean, $61K just disappears into thin air? That's some suspicious numbers right there. And what's up with the two addresses? One abandoned, one church? Sounds like Laurel Schullere was trying to cover her tracks or something ๐Ÿšฎ. I know the district trusted her as a mom, but that doesn't excuse her actions, no way. It's all about the Benjamins, if you ask me ๐Ÿ’ธ. And now she's turning herself in... maybe she thought she could pull it off? ๐Ÿ˜ This whole thing is just too fishy for my taste ๐ŸŸ.

it's just mind-blowing how quickly trust can turn into a commodity... like in this case where this mom just kinda took advantage of the school's good intentions ๐Ÿคฏ. i mean, we all know that with great power comes great responsibility, and it sounds like Laurel Schullere didn't think that one through ๐Ÿ’”. the thing is, her actions are not only harming her own children (who might not even have received any actual care) but also the trust placed in mom-type figures everywhere... i guess you could say she's teaching us all a lesson about being more vigilant and questioning those who are supposed to have our backs ๐Ÿค.

Ugh, this is just so sad ๐Ÿค•... I feel bad for the kids who were supposed to get help from Laurel Schullere's company, Missing Pieces. She must've been really desperate to scam the school district out of that much money ๐Ÿ’ธ. But at the same time, it's not right that she lied and took advantage of the system like that ๐Ÿ˜•. I think the school district was trying to do what they thought was best for the kids, but I guess they should've been more careful about vetting the companies they work with ๐Ÿ‘€. It's just a shame that Laurel's actions will now lead to her losing her freedom and reputation ๐Ÿšซ...

๐Ÿ˜” this is just shocking... a mom steals from schools where her own kids need help ๐Ÿ˜• you can't even imagine how messed up that is... it's like they were playing parents, but not really caring about their kids at all... or maybe they're just so desperate to get by ๐Ÿค‘ the worst part is they took advantage of people who genuinely want the best for those kids ๐Ÿ’” gotta give credit where credit is due tho, the authorities did catch her and now she's gonna face the music ๐ŸŽถ

I'm really disappointed in this whole thing ๐Ÿค•. I mean, who does that? Taking advantage of the trust placed on you as a parent to scam a system meant to help kids? It just doesn't add up... literally. 61k is a huge amount and if she was really using it for her kids' care, wouldn't there be some sort of paper trail or witnesses? I need to see more info about this Missing Pieces company before I even think about judging her motives.

And why did the school district just keep paying her without verifying the services? That's not good oversight ๐Ÿ™„. As a parent myself, I'd want to know that my kid's tax dollars are being used effectively and efficiently. I'm sure there are a lot more questions here than answers...
