Michigan inmate with mold illness begs Gov. Whitmer to save her life - Detroit Metro Times

A Michigan inmate, Krystal Clark, is desperately pleading for her life as she suffers from mold illness in the state's only women's prison. The 41-year-old has been incarcerated at Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility since 2011 and has spent years complaining about the mold infestation that has left her struggling to breathe, partially paralyzed, and unable to walk without assistance.

Clark recently recorded a 13-minute audio message begging Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Department of Corrections Director Heidi Washington to intervene before it's too late. In the recording, she breaks down in tears as she expresses her frustration and despair at being left behind while others are released from prison. She repeatedly asks why she hasn't been released or transferred to a hospital despite her documented and worsening condition.

Clark has been suffering from exposure to black mold for years and has been diagnosed with Aspergillus, a potentially life-threatening fungus. Medical records and court filings have raised serious questions about the prison's conditions and the state's response. Despite this, Clark has received grossly inadequate medical care, and her advocates are now calling on Whitmer to grant her medical clemency or order her immediate transfer to a hospital outside the prison.

Clark's supporters say that she is not a threat and would never hurt anyone. They argue that the MDOC's failure to address her condition amounts to selective mercy and is not true reform. The department has repeatedly denied that Clark is being neglected, but Clark's advocates say that this is just a smokescreen for the reality of her situation.

As the situation continues to deteriorate, Clark's life is hanging in the balance. Her supporters are calling on Whitmer and Washington to take action before it's too late. The fate of Krystal Clark remains uncertain, and her pleas for help have fallen on deaf ears.

I mean, can you even believe this? 🤯 A woman's life is literally being held together by a few scraps of mold 🧚‍♀️... I'm not saying it's funny, but if Krystal Clark was my roommate and she started growing her own personal ecosystem in our kitchen, I'd be like "Girl, get a new place" 😂. Seriously though, this is some next-level neglect – the state's response to her mold issue has been slower than Netflix updating its logo 🕰️. Can't we all just get along... with better ventilation? 💨

man... this just breaks my heart 💔 thinkin bout krystal clark, stuck in that prison with no way out. its like, she's been fightin for her life, literally breathin through the air, and nobody's listenin 🗣️. it's not just about krystal, tho - its about all the other ppl in there who might be facin similar struggles. what is it about us that makes us forget about our own humanity? 🤯 we lock ppl up, give 'em a roof over their heads, but dont provide 'em with basic human dignity? somethin ain't right, bro 😔

I'm worried about this girl Krystal Clark 🤕. She's been suffering from mold illness in that prison for years and nobody seems to care 😔. I mean, where's the evidence that she's a bad person? Has anyone even seen her commit a crime or something? It just doesn't add up.

And what really gets me is that she's not asking for much - just some decent medical care 🤒. But they're denying her that and saying it's all just part of "reform" 🚫. I don't buy it. There has to be better ways to help people who are genuinely in need.

I'm calling out the MDOC on this one 👊. Where's the transparency? Why haven't they taken action sooner? This is just a case of someone being forgotten, and that's not okay 😟. I want to see some sources on this - where's the data showing that Krystal's mold exposure has made her a threat to society? Give me something concrete! 💡

OMG this is soooo sad!!! 😭 Krystal's situation is literally a nightmare 🌪️ I don't understand why the prison isn't taking care of her properly it's like they're playing with her life 💔 She deserves so much better than to be left in that moldy hellhole 🚽 The governor and director need to step up and do something ASAP ⏰ It's not like she's asking for the moon, just some basic medical attention and a chance to live a normal life 🌻 I'm literally on the edge of my seat waiting for someone to take action 🤞 Please, Governor Whitmer and Director Washington, don't ignore Krystal's pleas 🙏

I'm really worried about Krystal Clark 🤕... I mean, this is just like what happened with Amanda Berry back in 2013 - she was held captive in that Ohio house for 10 years because no one even knew she was missing. Can you imagine? It's like, how can we not see the signs of neglect and abuse when someone's health is literally failing them behind bars? 🤷‍♀️ The fact that she's being kept there despite having a serious mold illness and Aspergillus diagnosis is just heartbreaking. I hope Governor Whitmer takes some real action before it's too late, you know?
