London City sign six-time Champions League winner Delphine Cascarino

London City Lionesses land French sensation Delphine Cascarino in bid for WSL supremacy.

The Women's Super League newcomers have strengthened their squad with the signing of 28-year-old France winger Delphine Cascarino, who boasts an impressive six Champions League titles to her name. The talented forward will join her new teammates on a three-and-a-half-year deal after parting ways with NWSL side San Diego Wave.

Cascarino's reputation was built during her time at OL Lyonnes, where she established herself as one of France's top performers, earning 86 caps for the national team. Her most recent stint in the United States ended on Sunday, with San Diego Wave and Cascarino amicably parting ways due to a desire to return closer to home.

The French forward expressed her excitement at joining London City, citing England as "the country of football" and her goal of playing in the Champions League. She also praised her new teammates, saying she was thrilled to be playing for an independent women's club like London City, which aims to challenge for WSL supremacy.

Another key signing, Daniëlle van de Donk, made her long-awaited debut for London City over the weekend after a prolonged knee injury setback. The 34-year-old midfielder was visibly emotional about finally returning to the pitch, describing it as "super special" and highlighting the importance of resilience in overcoming adversity.

New head coach Eder Maestre praised Van de Donk's return, saying she was enjoying playing football again and adding another win to her tally. As London City look to rebuild under their new coach, they will be eager to continue improving and competing with some of the best teams in the WSL.

I gotta say, I'm not exactly stoked about London City's latest signing, Delphine Cascarino. Don't get me wrong, she's a total boss and all that, but I think they're trying to buy their way into the top spot 🤑. I mean, six Champions League titles is impressive, but it's not like they can just magic those wins onto the pitch.

And let's be real, Cascarino's been playing for France and other big teams for years, so it feels like she's already established herself as a top player. Is London City really going to be able to take advantage of that talent? I'm not convinced 😐. Maybe they'll prove me wrong, but for now, I'm just skeptical about their chances in the WSL 🤔

idk what's so special about this signing tho 🤔, everyone's just saying she's super talented but has she even played with anyone of value in her past? Cascarino's been on a team that never did much, and now she's just gonna join some mediocre london side and expect to win the whole thing? 😂 also van de Donk being emotional about finally playing after all that time is kinda cute, but come on girl you're 34 lol
