Authorities in Round Lake Beach have made a grim discovery, charging two individuals with multiple counts of murder and child endangerment in connection with the death of an 8-year-old boy whose body was found at his home. The children's mother, Dominique Servant, 33, and her boyfriend, Joey Ruffin, 38, were taken into custody on Friday night following the shocking discovery.
According to police, the boy's lifeless body was discovered by authorities responding to a report of an unresponsive child. Despite efforts to revive him, the boy was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. Preliminary autopsy findings indicate that the boy suffered from severe malnourishment and physical abuse.
The tragedy is compounded by reports that the 10-year-old brother of the deceased boy also showed signs of abuse and malnourishment after speaking with child advocacy officials. Like, on one hand, it's sickening that someone would do such a thing to an innocent kid. The thought of those poor little ones being starved and beaten into submission just makes my stomach turn 
And the fact that the 10-year-old brother was also abused is just devastating.
I guess you could say they're doing their best to catch these people, but can't we be a little more proactive about keeping our kids safe?
I don't know... and honestly, I'm still trying to wrap my head around the whole thing.
my heart is literally breaking for that poor 8-year-old boy... no words can even explain how horrific this situation must be for his family 
and especially his little brother who's going through this too 
i hope the authorities find out everything they need to know so justice can be served 
i was just thinking about my little cousin who's in 3rd grade and how lucky she is to have such a loving family 
it's heartbreaking that some parents can be so cruel to their kids, like, what's wrong with them?! 
and now there's another kid involved too... poor things 
we should all be supporting these brave kids who are speaking out about what they're going through 
... and to think the other two kids were living in this environment with their parents... I'm so angry that these people could be so cruel to innocent children 
. And to make matters worse, the mom is 33 and the dad is 38... how did they not see what was going on?

It's just so much easier for everyone involved if you just let them be. And what about the 3-year-old step-sibling who was taken away from his family - is that really better for him or are they just going to mess up his life too? This whole situation just seems like a total nightmare, but I'm sure we'll see some sort of light-hearted court appearance and a feel-good story out of it...
. And now there's a little kid who's been living in a state of neglect and abuse, poor thing 
... I mean, 8 years old? That's, like, super young to be dealing with this kind of trauma. And a 3-year-old who has to go into state care because he was living in the same house as his brother and mom? That's just heartbreaking 
. Child abuse cases were so rare then, and if they did happen, it was always shrouded in mystery or just plain ignored by society. Nowadays, with all the awareness campaigns and social media, I thought we'd made some progress... but I guess that's not the case anymore 
. What's even more concerning is that there might be a younger sibling out there who needs help too... it's like they're just piling on the tragedy after tragedy

. It's times like these that remind us of how far we still have to go in terms of protecting our children...
. I hope Servant and Ruffin rot in prison for what they've done, no mercy for them 
I can only imagine how hard this must be for his family and especially his younger siblings who are still going through this trauma.
