Healey directly calls on 2 airlines to end ICE collaboration

Gov. Maura Healey Slams Two Airlines Over ICE Collaboration, Demands End to Deportation Flights.

In a scathing letter to the executives of GlobalX Airlines and Eastern Air Express, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey has called on the two private airlines to immediately end their collaboration with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) over deportation flights. The move comes as Healey continues to crack down on ICE's increasingly aggressive tactics in the state.

The governor's letter, dated Thursday, highlights how these two charter airlines have been providing aircraft and personnel for ICE use at Hanscom Field in Bedford, Massachusetts. This collaboration allows ICE to rapidly deport individuals without access to due process of law, separating them from their families, friends, and communities. Healey's criticism of the situation is echoed by her reference to a recent incident where an ICE officer was involved in the fatal shooting of a woman in Minnesota.

Healey stated that both airlines are profiting off these anti-American tactics by facilitating the obstruction of due process. She also emphasized the economic concern, noting that during a time when American taxpayers are facing denied hunger benefits, reduced healthcare access, and higher costs from tariffs, hundreds of millions of dollars are being spent on private jets to disrupt people's lives.

Healey pointed out that despite their lucrative business, neither airline has responded to requests for comment on this issue. Her letter is also an economic argument against the partnerships, stating that taxpayer money should be prioritized over such costly and controversial practices.

Recent reports have shown a significant increase in ICE flights at Hanscom Field since 2024, with 114 flights taking place between January 1st and November 30th of last year. The rise in this number has raised concerns about the state's response to the crisis faced by detained residents, many of whom have no criminal convictions.

Avelo Airlines recently announced it would be ending its collaboration with ICE amid a company-wide downsizing. A CEO stated that this partnership puts them "in the center of political controversy."

๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ I'm not surprised at all, but still can't believe these airlines are profiting off this! I mean, who profits from sending ppl away without due process? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ The thing is, it's not just about the $$$, it's about human lives. These ppl are being torn apart from their families and friends... ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

And what really gets me is that these airlines haven't even bothered to respond to Healey's letter. Like, do they care about the impact this has on people's lives? ๐Ÿค” I'm all for economic arguments, but come on! Taxpayer money should be used to help ppl in need, not to facilitate deportations.

I was thinking, if Avelo Airlines is ending its collaboration with ICE due to controversy... why haven't these other airlines caught on yet? ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ’ธ It's like they're just trying to avoid being part of the problem. We should be holding these companies accountable for their actions! ๐Ÿ’ช

I'm kinda surprised that Gov Healey is going after these two airlines, I mean, they're just doing what their customers are paying for, right? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ But at the same time, I can see why she's all up in arms about it, it's pretty messed up what's happening with ICE. Like, shouldn't we be helping people instead of deporting them? ๐Ÿค”

I don't know if I agree that both airlines should just end their partnership with ICE over night, maybe they should think twice about who they're working with and what kind of work it is. It's not like they're the only ones doing this, there are plenty of other companies out there that are profiting off similar practices. ๐Ÿ’ธ

And honestly, I kinda feel bad for the people who are getting deported, they've done nothing wrong, right? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ But at the same time, I'm also worried about how this is all going to affect the economy and stuff. Like, what if we're not giving enough money to help people in need? ๐Ÿค‘

I guess I'm just stuck on both sides of this issue, like always ๐Ÿ˜’

I'm so done with these airlines profiting off ICE's deportation flights ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ˜ก. Like, hello, isn't human rights more important than some benjamins? And Governor Healey is totally right to call them out on this. I mean, can you imagine if a private company came into your neighborhood and started renting out space for immigration enforcement purposes without even consulting the local authorities? It's outrageous!

And the fact that they've been flying under the radar all this time, with no comment or apology when asked about it... gives me so much icky feels ๐Ÿคข. It's like they're trying to sweep this whole thing under the rug.

I'm glad Avelo Airlines is out of the collaboration game now - at least someone's taking responsibility for their actions. Maybe more airlines will follow suit and prioritize people over profits ๐Ÿ’ธ๐Ÿ’•. This is some real-life drama, folks!

๐Ÿšซโ€โ™‚๏ธ The airlines should at least give some explanation for why they're teaming up with an agency as toxic as ICE ๐Ÿคฏ 300 million bucks is a lot of cash, and I'm all for using public funds for good causes. It's time to rethink the whole system.

๐Ÿค” I think it's super concerning that these airlines are profiting from helping the government deport people without due process... like, don't they care about doing the right thing? ๐Ÿ˜’ It's not just the law aspect, but also the emotional toll on families and communities. And now, Avelo Airlines is distancing themselves from this partnership because it's causing too much controversy ๐Ÿ™. What would happen if more airlines followed suit? Would we see a change in how ICE operates? Maybe, just maybe... ๐Ÿ’ก

I just don't get why airlines gotta be so tight-lipped about this kinda thing ๐Ÿค”. I mean, they're making a pretty penny off these deportation flights, but is it really worth it? It's like, what's more American than giving people a fair shot at due process? These ICE partnerships are like a big ol' slap in the face to those folks who don't have a voice ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ. And let's not forget, our tax dollars are footing the bill for these private jets ๐Ÿ’ธ. It just doesn't add up, you know?

I'm totally with Maura Healey on this one ๐Ÿ™Œ. It's disgusting that these two airlines are profiting off ICE's anti-American tactics and helping to tear families apart ๐Ÿ’”. I mean, can you imagine if your grandma was being deported without a fair trial? ๐Ÿ˜ฑ The thought alone is too much. And yeah, the money they're making from these flights is straight-up wrong ๐Ÿค‘. We should be investing in people's lives, not private jets to facilitate deportation. And what really gets my goat is that these airlines are just sitting on their hands and not speaking out about it ๐Ÿค”. Avelo Airlines just ended its partnership with ICE, but I'm guessing the other two will still keep flying the flag of profiteering off oppression โœˆ๏ธ. We need more people like Maura Healey who's willing to stand up for what's right ๐ŸŒŸ.

I'm really worried about these deportation flights ๐Ÿค•. It's just not right, you know? I mean, who wants to fly away from their family and friends without even getting a chance to say goodbye? It's like they're treating people as numbers instead of human beings.

And it's not just about the people being deported โ€“ it's also about the airlines themselves. They're profiting off this stuff by providing planes and personnel for ICE, which is basically a private security force that's supposed to be serving the American people, not exploiting them.

I think Governor Healey is totally right to speak out against this. It's time for these airlines to stop profiting from anti-American tactics and start putting their values into practice instead. We need more leaders like her who care about doing what's right, even if it's hard ๐Ÿ™.

I'm totally down for some airlines using private jets to fly people away without giving 'em due process lol ๐Ÿคฃ. I mean, think about it, these flights are costing hundreds of millions of dollars, and meanwhile American taxpayers are struggling with basic stuff like food and healthcare. It's just not right that rich companies get to profit off this nonsense while the rest of us are left to pick up the tab. And what's worse is they're flying around in style, enjoying those private jets, while people's lives are being disrupted. The governor is totally on point here ๐Ÿ™Œ
