French minister under fire for Playboy magazine cover | CNN

Marlene Schiappa, France's Minister for the Social Economy and French Associations, has found herself at the center of controversy after appearing on the cover of Playboy magazine to promote a 12-page interview about women's and LGBT rights.

The move has drawn criticism from some of her own party members, including Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, who reportedly expressed concerns over the cover photo, describing it as "not appropriate" during this period. Schiappa's decision to appear in the magazine has sparked debate among politicians and activists alike, with some hailing her for promoting women's rights and others criticizing what they see as a misuse of her platform.

Despite the backlash, Schiappa has remained unapologetic about her appearance, stating that she will continue to defend women's right to control their bodies. Her critics, however, have pointed out the perceived hypocrisy, particularly given President Emmanuel Macron's recent decision to feature on the cover of children's magazine Pif Gadget.

French politician Jean-Luc Mélenchon has also weighed in on the debate, tweeting that Schiappa's appearance is a symptom of France's broader social crisis. Meanwhile, French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin has come to her defense, praising her as a "courageous female politician" who embodies both "character and style".

As France continues to grapple with its own brand of social unrest, sparked by Macron's push for pension reforms amidst widespread public opposition, Schiappa's appearance on the cover of Playboy magazine serves as a reminder that even those in power can be subject to scrutiny and criticism.

I mean, I get why some people would wanna criticize Marlene Schiappa for doin' a Playboy spread - it is kinda weird, especially when you're the Minister for Social Economy... but at the same time, like, she's makin' a point about women's rights and all that jazz. And honestly, I think it's kinda cool that she's not apologizin' for bein' herself. 🤷‍♀️

But what really grinds my gears is how some of her own party members are tryin' to shame her over this. Like, if they can't handle a little bit of controversy, then maybe they shouldn't be in politics. And as for Macron's whole thing with the kids magazine... I mean, come on, that's just straight-up weird too. 🤪

I think what's really goin' on here is that people are tryin' to use Schiappa's appearance as a distraction from the real issues facin' France right now - like the pension reforms and all that. So yeah, I guess it's a good thing that she's still standin' by her principles... even if some folks can't handle a little bit of flair. 💁‍♀️

omg u guys!!! 😲 marlene schiappa is like totally getting roasted 4 appearing on the cover of playboy 🤣 but i gotta say, i think its pretty cool that shes speaking out about womens rights & LGBT issues 🌈 especially since some ppl in her own party r saying she's doing it all wrong 🙄 elisabeth borne is like super extra btw 👀 schiappa is def not apologizing 4 anything tho 💁‍♀️ and honestly, im kinda glad about that cuz sometimes u gotta take risks & speak truth to power 💥 what i dont get is why people are so mad about it tho 🤷‍♀️ cant we just talk about womens rights & stuff without all the drama? 😩 anyway, its def making headlines & sparking conversations 📰 and who knows, maybe schiappa will end up inspiring more ppl 2 speak out 🌟

I mean, I'm kinda weirded out by this whole situation 🤔. Like, I get it, promoting women's rights is important and all that, but using your own face on the cover of Playboy just seems like a super dodgy move to me 💁‍♀️. And yeah, I can see why some people would be mad at Schiappa for putting herself in that situation 🙅‍♂️. But at the same time, I don't think she's being too harsh on herself or anything... maybe it's just a way of saying "hey, I'm willing to get my hands dirty and challenge societal norms" 💪? And honestly, President Macron featuring in Pif Gadget does seem kinda hypocritical 🤷‍♂️. Maybe the real issue here is that France needs more people like Schiappa - not necessarily because they'd wear Playboy on their cover, but because they're willing to take risks and speak up 💬.

I gotta say, this whole situation has me torn 🤔. On one hand, I love that Marlene Schiappa is unapologetically herself and speaking out for women's rights 💪. It takes guts to be that bold, especially in a conservative country like France. But at the same time, it feels kinda...much 🤷‍♀️. Like, is this really the best way to get your point across? I mean, Playboy isn't exactly known for its credibility on social issues 📰. And what about all the party members who are speaking out against her, like PM Elisabeth Borne? Don't they have a say too? 🤔

It's also got me thinking about Emmanuel Macron and how he's trying to play it cool while still being super hypocritical 🙄. I mean, featuring on a kids' magazine cover is one thing, but this...this feels like a whole different level 😂.

Anyway, I guess what I'm saying is that Schiappa's move might be seen as either a brilliant move or a total misfire 🤯. Either way, it's definitely got everyone talking 💬.

I'm so over this drama! 🙄 I don't get why some people are hating on Marlene Schiappa for being confident and unapologetic about her appearance. She's using her platform to promote important issues like women's rights, which is awesome in my opinion 😊. And yeah, maybe the cover photo of Playboy isn't exactly subtle, but who says politicians can't have a little fun? 🤷‍♀️ I mean, if President Macron can feature on a children's magazine, why not Schiappa on a more...mature publication? 🤔 It's all about balance and being true to oneself, right? 😌
