Former Tory councillor admits drugging and raping wife over 14-year period

A former Conservative councillor has admitted to nearly 50 serious sex crimes against his ex-wife over a span of 14 years, including rape, drugging, and voyeurism. Philip Young, 49, pleaded guilty to 11 counts of rape and 11 counts of administering a substance with intent to stupefy his former spouse, Joanne Young, who can be named as she has waived her right to anonymity.

The abuse allegedly took place between 2010 and 2024, during which time Young was a councillor in Swindon and held various other roles. He has been found guilty of multiple counts of voyeurism, including one count that covered at least 200 acts of the crime. Seven counts of assault by penetration and four counts of sexual assault also make up part of his convictions.

Young was described as "incredibly brave" by Det Supt Geoff Smith of Wiltshire police, who praised Joanne Young for her courage in coming forward and supporting the investigation. Five other men appeared in court on Friday in connection with alleged offences against Joanne Young, but they all pleaded not guilty to various charges.

The case has sparked outrage, with many calling for tougher sentences for sex offenders. The Crown Prosecution Service has welcomed the guilty verdicts and expressed its commitment to ensuring that Philip Young faces justice for his "abhorrent" actions.

Young's past has been shrouded in controversy, including a 2009 article published in which he spoke about delivering his son at home while his wife went into labour. He has also held various director roles, including as the chief operating officer at Pracedo, a consultancy firm.

Ugh, I'm not surprised to hear about this guy's "bravery" being used to describe him... like that even helps with the whole "abhorrent" thing ๐Ÿ™„. Anyway, 14 years is just insane. And to think he was in positions of power and trust? It's a bit much, don't you think? The fact that his ex-wife felt brave enough to come forward and support the investigation is what should be celebrated, not him... I mean, it takes a lot of guts to speak out against someone like this ๐Ÿ’ช. And those 200+ acts of voyeurism? Unbelievable ๐Ÿคฏ. Can't believe he got away with all that for so long... yeah, definitely not enough consequences from his past actions ๐Ÿ˜’.

I'm so gutted to hear about Philip Young's disgusting crimes... 14 years of abuse is just appalling ๐Ÿคฏ. It's not just the sheer number of counts that's shocking, but also how he managed to hide it for so long. I mean, who does this? ๐Ÿ˜ท And to think he was involved in some pretty high-profile roles too... councillor and COO at a consultancy firm? Unbelievable. The fact that his ex-wife had to go through all this is just heartbreaking ๐Ÿค•. Tougher sentences for sex offenders is definitely the way to go, in my opinion โš–๏ธ. Justice needs to be served in cases like this ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ. And I have to say, I'm also really proud of his ex-wife for coming forward and supporting the investigation ๐Ÿ’ช. She's a total trooper ๐Ÿ™Œ.

๐Ÿคฏ This is just heartbreaking, can you believe someone in power like that was able to abuse someone for so long and not get caught? I mean, 14 years is just ridiculous. The fact that he used his positions of authority to drug and rape his ex-wife is just mind-blowing. And the worst part is that there are other men who could be responsible for some of these crimes too... it's like a conspiracy or something! ๐Ÿ’”

But I have to say, Joanne Young is a total rockstar for coming forward and speaking out. Her bravery is what led to her ex-husband getting caught and facing justice. And I'm so glad the CPS is on board with this - it's about time someone held him accountable for his actions.

It makes me wonder how many other women are out there who have been through something similar, but haven't come forward because they're scared or too ashamed to speak up. It's a huge problem that we need to address ASAP! ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿ˜ž this is just so heartbreaking ๐Ÿค• the fact that someone with power and influence could do something like this to someone they were supposed to protect is just appalling ๐Ÿ’” Joanne Young's bravery in coming forward is truly inspiring ๐Ÿ™ and I think it's completely reasonable that there's outrage over Philip Young's actions, but at the same time, we have to consider that he has been found guilty and will face justice ๐Ÿ’ฏ perhaps now that the court process is over, we can start thinking about how we can support survivors of abuse and create a system that prevents this kind of thing from happening again ๐Ÿค

๐Ÿคฏ I'm literally shook by this case... 14 years of nearly 50 serious sex crimes? That's just despicable and unacceptable. The fact that he was in positions of power like a councillor makes it even worse, you know? It's not just about the victim, but also about all the other people who could've been affected by his actions.

And what really gets me is how he managed to hide this behind a mask of being a "family man" and having director roles. Like, hello? You can't just have multiple marriages and children while being a sex offender with a history of abusing your ex-wife! It's disgusting.

Tougher sentences for sex offenders are definitely needed in my book. This kind of abuse should come with the harshest punishments possible. I'm so glad that Joanne Young has the courage to speak out, though. She's an absolute hero ๐Ÿ™Œ

๐Ÿคฏ just heard this news and I'm still trying to wrap my head around it ๐Ÿ˜ฑ Philip Young's crimes are absolutely despicable, 11 counts of rape is already a lot but adding drugging and voyeurism makes me so angry ๐Ÿšซ. It's not just the fact that he committed these heinous acts, but also the fact that he had multiple roles in his life and still managed to hide this from everyone ๐Ÿ’”. The law needs to change, 50 years is way too long for someone to be committing such crimes without facing justice โฐ. I'm glad Joanne Young found the courage to come forward and support the investigation ๐Ÿ™Œ, it's not easy to do that. Five other men involved in this case need to be held accountable as well, no one is above the law! ๐Ÿ˜ก

OMG, this case is just heartbreaking ๐Ÿค•... I mean, 14 years of abuse and she's still brave enough to speak out? ๐Ÿ’ช Joanne Young is literally my hero for coming forward like that. It's sickening that this guy was able to hide his dark secret behind a faรงade of respectability - councillor, director roles... he even wrote an article about being a hands-on dad while his wife gave birth at home ๐Ÿคฏ Like what kind of man does that?! ๐Ÿ™„ And now he's facing justice for his heinous crimes. Can't say I'm surprised there are calls for harsher sentences though... 50+ serious sex crimes is just unacceptable. ๐Ÿ˜ก Glad the CPS is pushing for this guy to face real consequences...

OMG this is like soooo shocking!! I'm literally speechless... 50 serious sex crimes?! How could someone be that cruel?! ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿšซ Philip Young's case is like a nightmare come true... his ex-wife Joanne is a total strong woman for speaking out and supporting the investigation, btw! ๐Ÿ’ช I totally agree with the Crown Prosecution Service, he needs to face justice for what he did. Five other men are involved too, that's just crazy! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ Can you imagine being in Joanne's shoes? ๐Ÿ™ Tougher sentences for sex offenders is like a no-brainer, it's about time we take these predators seriously and hold them accountable ๐Ÿ’ฏ

๐Ÿค• oh man this is just disgusting, 14 years of almost 50 serious sex crimes... how could someone even do that to one person? ๐Ÿšซ and on top of it all he's got these fancy titles like councillor and director roles... meanwhile his ex-wife is the real hero here, I mean, coming forward and supporting the investigation takes courage ๐Ÿ’ช but the sentence for this guy should've been way harsher, 200 acts of voyeurism?! that's just appalling ๐Ÿคฏ

๐Ÿคฏ Can you believe what I'm reading? This guy was out there, holding positions of power and respect, all the while abusing someone he was supposed to protect. It's like something straight out of a movie, but it's real life. The fact that he got away with it for so long is just mind-blowing. And now, five other guys are getting dragged into this mess... it's just too much ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. I'm so glad Joanne Young finally found the courage to come forward and support the investigation - she's a total rockstar ๐Ÿ’ช. The Crown Prosecution Service should be commended for sticking up for her and making sure Philip Young faces justice. I mean, 11 counts of rape? That's just... no words ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ. And what really gets me is that he was in all these positions of trust... how did nobody see this coming? ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ’”

๐Ÿ˜” This is absolutely disgusting... how could someone do this to another human being for so long? ๐Ÿคฏ The fact that he's been in positions of power and trust and got away with it for 14 years is just appalling. I think the sentence should be harsher, considering the severity of his crimes. ๐Ÿšซ His ex-wife, Joanne, is a total hero for coming forward and giving Philip Young justice... I can't even imagine what she went through. ๐Ÿ’”

This is insane ๐Ÿคฏ 14 years of that crap and no one knew?! How did she even survive that? I'm so angry on her behalf ๐Ÿคฌ. And the fact that he was still in positions of power while doing this is just sickening ๐Ÿ˜ท. The CPS should be getting slammed for not taking action sooner, but at least they're stepping up now ๐Ÿ’ช. 50+ counts of rape and drugging? That's a whole lotta time behind bars, I'm glad the justice system finally kicked in โš–๏ธ. We need to keep pushing for harsher sentences for these monsters, no one should be able to get away with this kind of abuse ๐Ÿ˜ก.

This is just wild ๐Ÿคฏ I mean, I'm glad justice has been served and all that, but 14 years of this kind of abuse? It's just... I don't know, it's like he had no regard for her at all, you know? And the fact that he was in positions of power, like a councillor, makes it even more messed up. I feel bad for his ex-wife, she must have been living in fear for so long. The punishments are definitely harsh enough, I think. Seven years in prison is a good starting point, imo ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿคฏ This whole thing is just horrific ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. I mean, 14 years of abuse? That's just unimaginable. The fact that he was able to hide it behind his public life is just chilling. And now, we're hearing about other guys who allegedly did the same things to Joanne... it's like a never-ending nightmare ๐ŸŒ‘. The law needs to catch up, you know? Five years for rape in the UK is still way too lenient if you ask me ๐Ÿ’”. I'm glad Joanne spoke out and gave those men a chance to face justice though ๐Ÿ‘Š. And credit to Det Supt Smith and the CPS for pushing for tougher sentences - we need more of that, ASAP ๐Ÿšซ.

OMG ๐Ÿคฏ like, what's going on with this guy Philip Young tho?! 14 years of abuse is just insane ๐Ÿ’” he was in public life too, holding these important positions and people trusted him... it's like, how could that happen?! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ I feel so bad for his ex-wife Joanne, she must've been living in fear for years. And the fact that he had power over her as a councillor and director makes it even worse ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ the law needs to change, we need stricter sentences for sex offenders like this! ๐Ÿ’ช justice needs to be served ASAP ๐Ÿ‘ฎ

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this case... I mean, 49 years old and nearly 50 serious sex crimes? That's just insane ๐Ÿคฏ. You'd think someone in his position of power would be held accountable, you know? I mean, who lets a sex offender get away with that kind of abuse for 14 whole years? It's just not right.

And now they're all trying to say that he should get stricter sentences? I'm not saying the system is perfect or anything, but maybe we're just looking at it from the wrong angle. Maybe we should be focusing on how we can help people like Joanne Young come forward and speak out against these monsters. That's where the real courage lies ๐Ÿ™.

And what really gets me is that this guy was a respected member of his community, even held some pretty powerful positions... it just goes to show you that appearances can be deceiving, right?

can't believe this guy was able to get away with it for so long, and now he's just sitting there thinking he got off easy ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ˜ก what's wrong with our system that lets people like him abuse power and get caught only when they're caught red-handed? the fact that he was a councillor and held multiple roles makes me question everything. how many more people are out there living this kind of life, and how can we trust them to represent us? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ‘€

omg can u even believe this guy Philip Young is literally getting away with a bunch of serious stuff like rape and drugging ppl... i mean i get that he's plead guilty but still 11 counts of rape is insane!! and the fact that he was in positions of power like councillor and director roles while all this was going on is just wild. it makes u wonder how many other ppl might be getting away with similar stuff coz they're in positions of authority. anyway, its good to see Joanne Young speaking out and seeking justice - she's a total hero ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ’ช
