Finland’s Prime Minister Sanna Marin concedes election | CNN

Finland's Prime Minister Sanna Marin has conceded defeat in the country's parliamentary election, marking the end of her tenure as leader. The opposition National Coalition Party (NCP) claimed victory, winning 48 seats and narrowly ahead of the nationalist Finns Party with 46 seats, while Marin's Social Democrats secured 43 seats.

Marin, who was just 37 years old when she took office in 2019, has been a prominent figure on the international stage. Her push for Finland to join NATO, in conjunction with President Sauli Niinisto, has been one of her most notable foreign policy actions since taking office. The country's accession process is now almost complete, pending approval from all 30 members of the Western defense alliance.

Marin acknowledged that the NCP had won the biggest mandate and vowed to "fix Finland" and its economy. Petteri Orpo, leader of the NCP, promised austerity measures and an end to rising public debt, which has reached over 70% of GDP since Marin's tenure began.

However, Marin also conceded that her party had not finished first in the election and acknowledged that she would likely lose her position as Prime Minister. She expressed support for negotiations with various groups to form a coalition government.

Marin, who is considered by many as a millennial role model for progressive leaders, has faced criticism at home over issues such as partying and public spending. While she remains popular among many Finns, particularly young moderates, her opponents have capitalized on concerns about lavish spending on pensions and education.

man, 37 and already outta a job? it's crazy how fast things move in politics 🤯 sanna marin was always my queen, i loved watching her slay the nato negotiations game, now she's gotta go back to the drawing board 📝 anyhoo, i'm not surprised finns party won, they've been gaining momentum for ages 💪 but still, it's a shame she's stepping down, she had some great ideas 🤔 about making finland more sustainable and stuff. maybe this is an opportunity for her to come back stronger in the future 🌱

I'm tellin' ya, there's gotta be more to this story than meets the eye 🤔. I mean, Sanna Marin is basically a puppet for some big corp or gov't entity, if you ask me. All that partying and public spending drama? Just a smokescreen to distract us from what's really goin' on behind the scenes.

And now she's just rollin' over and concedin' defeat like it's no big deal? That's some suspicious behavior right there 👀. I bet she knows more than she's lettin' on, but is too scared to speak out. The NCP's austerity measures and Finns Party's nationalist agenda? Just tools for the real puppet masters, if you ask me.

This whole thing just smells like a big ol' setup 🤷‍♀️. I mean, who really cares about Finland joinin' NATO, anyway? It's all about control and surveillance, my friend 💻. Wake up, sheeple! 😎

I'm so surprised the opposition won 🤦‍♂️! I mean, who would've thought that a bunch of old guys with traditional values could actually win? Sanna Marin's time as PM was all about progress and modernizing Finland, but I guess that wasn't enough to convince the people. Petteri Orpo's promises of austerity measures sound like just what the doctor ordered... for the economy... 🤑

🤔 so yeah I'm not surprised by this outcome, Finland's economy is pretty stagnant and people are getting frustrated with the cost of living 🤯 Marin's party has been all about progressive policies but it seems like they didn't quite resonate with voters this time around 💸 Orpo's promise to "fix" the country is gonna be interesting, I've heard that's code for austerity measures which might hurt a lot of people who are already struggling financially 😟 anyway, it'll be cool to see how Marin handles her exit from politics, she's been a major player on the international stage and it'll be sad to see her go 👋

Finland's new gov is gonna be super interesting to watch 🤔 especially with the NCP taking power. Marin's legacy is still a big part of Finnish politics & it'll be cool to see how they balance out her progressive policies with some austerity measures, but I'm not expecting them to go too radical 😐. The economy situation in Finland is pretty serious, so I hope they can really 'fix' things and not just stick their heads in the sand about public debt 📊. Marin's exit also raises questions about what this means for EU politics & NATO - will Finland still be super progressive on defense? Only time will tell 🕰️💬

OMG 🤯, Sanna Marin's time in office is officially OVER 😔. I'm kinda sad to see her go, she was such a trailblazer for Finland on the international stage 🌎💪! Her push for NATO membership was EVERYTHING 💥 and now it's almost complete 🙏! The NCP winning the most seats tho 📊, is kinda surprising considering how progressive she was 👀. I hope Marin can support the new gov from afar 🤞 and help shape the direction of Finland in any way she can 💼🔍
