Fable will let you be a heartless landlord this fall

Fable's Long-Awaited Return Sparks Skepticism Over Gameplay and Presentation

Microsoft has finally released an extended preview of its highly anticipated Fable RPG reboot, leaving fans eagerly awaiting more information. The game's developer, Playground Games, showcased nearly 11 minutes of gameplay footage during a recent Developer Direct showcase. While the footage provided some insight into the game's world and story, it left many to wonder about the overall quality of the experience.

The game takes place in Albion, a medieval fantasy setting that appears to be more traditional than the industrial revolution-infused version seen in previous Fable games. The player character is born with no notable abilities or skills, but their story begins when they're a child and must navigate the world after being turned into stone by a mysterious stranger.

Customization options are available for the hero's appearance, including different skin tones, head shapes, tattoos, and scars. However, combat doesn't seem to offer anything groundbreaking, with players able to use a combination of melee and ranged weapons alongside magic to defeat enemies. The game's mechanics appear to be more standard than revolutionary.

The real fun, however, seems to lie in the social aspects of the game. Players can ask villagers out on dates, get married, have children, and even explore different relationships – including non-monogamous ones. Purchasing houses and businesses also provides a unique experience, as NPCs develop an opinion of the player's hero based on their actions.

From a technical perspective, the footage shared during the showcase was somewhat rough around the edges, with noticeable frame rate issues and some ghosting in animations. It remains to be seen whether Playground Games will have enough time to polish the presentation before the game's release this autumn on Xbox Series X/S, PC, PlayStation 5, and Game Pass Ultimate.

Fable fans are eagerly awaiting more information about the game, which was originally slated for release in 2025 before being delayed. With a longer wait now ahead of them, hopes that Playground Games will deliver an engaging experience are tempered by concerns over gameplay and presentation.

I don’t usually comment but I have to say, Fable is one of those games that I was really hyped for back in the day 🤔. And from what I saw in this preview, it still has a lot of potential 😊. The social aspects seem super interesting - I love how you can build relationships and even have kids 🤯. It's like you're not just playing as a hero, but also building a life.

But at the same time, I'm a bit concerned about the gameplay 😐. It looks pretty standard, which is disappointing given how much hype was built up around this game. And yeah, the presentation does look a bit rough 🤦‍♂️. I hope Playground Games can iron out some of those issues before release.

Still, I'm gonna keep an eye on it 👀 and see what they come up with next. Maybe they'll surprise us and make Fable into something truly special 💥

idk man, i'm super hyped for fable but at the same time it's like...the gameplay mechanics seem kinda meh? 🤔 11 mins of footage and i'm still waiting for some real gameplay vids lol. and yeah the frame rate issues are a bummer 😳. on the other hand, i love that social aspect, exploring relationships and stuff, it sounds so cool! 💕 but can they pull off that and also deliver solid presentation? 🤔 specs-wise, xbox series x/s is gonna be a beast to run this game smoothly 👀. gotta keep an eye out for those devs to see what they're working on behind the scenes 💻

omg i'm SO hyped for this fable reboot!!! 🤩 i loved the original game when it came out back in the day! 🕰️ playground games is doing a great job with the customization options, btw - can't wait to see what kind of cool tattoos and scars my hero gets 😎. but yeah, combat does seem kinda standard... hopefully they'll add some more depth to that once we get our hands on it. and omg, the social aspects sound SO interesting! 🤝 getting married, having kids, and all those different relationships? that's like the whole point of fable for me 😆. can't wait to see what kind of fun stuff they've added this time around 💖

I don’t usually comment but I have to say that I'm kinda hyped for Fable’s return 🤔. The medieval fantasy setting looks pretty cool and the social aspects seem interesting, like having NPCs with opinions about you 😊. But at the same time, combat mechanics don't really stand out from other RPGs I've played, which is a bummer. And yeah, the footage was kinda rough, but you never know how it'll look when it's all polished up 💪. Still, it's always exciting to see developers pushing boundaries and trying new things, so fingers crossed that Playground Games will deliver an epic experience for fans 🤞

🤔 u guys think this fable reboot is gonna be good lol idk about it looks like its still got some work to do. customization options sound cool but the combat seems kinda meh. and what's with the weird tech issues in the trailer? 11 minutes of gameplay doesn't say much to me. also, why did they delay the game 2 times already? what are we gonna get now? 🤯

I'm super stoked to see Fable getting a reboot, but I gotta say, the gameplay footage looked kinda meh 🤔. I mean, standard combat mechanics aren't exactly gonna blow our minds, but at least the customization options for the hero's appearance are fire 🔥! And can we talk about how cool it is that players can have all these complex relationships with NPCs? It's like a whole new level of RPG depth 📈. But, gotta wonder if Playground Games has enough time to iron out some of those pesky technical issues before the game drops this autumn... fingers crossed they can get it polished up ⚙️.

omg i'm still hyped about fable but like what's up with the combat lol it feels so meh after all the hype playground games gotta bring their A-game if they wanna make this feel like a real reboot 🤔 not to mention those frame rate issues during the dev direct showcase, hopefully they'll be able to iron that out before launch 👀 i'm more concerned about the social aspects tho, having relationships and building a life as your hero sounds so cool!!!
