Tragedy Strikes on Chicago Streets: Heroic Bus Driver Steps Up
In a chilling incident that unfolded just after 9:50 p.m. Sunday night, a young man's life was brutally cut short by the hand of a gunman at a bus stop in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. The victim, identified as a 43-year-old man, was shot in the abdomen before managing to board a CTA bus, where he collapsed and led the driver into a frantic chase south on Halsted Street.
In a stunning display of humanity and bravery, the bus driver – who has not been named by authorities – sprang into action. Not only did she speed away from the scene as quickly as possible, but she also called 911 while her passenger lay bleeding in the back seat. The driver waited patiently with the victim until help arrived, refusing to leave his side even when the ambulance took him to the hospital.
Eyewitnesses described the chaotic scene, saying they heard "at least five or six shots" before seeing the victim collapse and board the bus. A fellow passenger who was listening to music at the time of the shooting said he watched in horror as the victim fell to the ground, his body slumping forward onto the floor.
"I looked up and he's on the ground," the shaken passenger recounted hours after the incident. "He was on his face, on his knees... it was crazy." The incident has left him reeling, unable to process what he witnessed firsthand.
Despite the heroic actions of the bus driver, no one is currently in custody. The Chicago Police Department continues its investigation into the shooting and surrounding events.

i feel for that poor victim and his family can't even imagine what they're going thru rn... but u know what's really crazy? how heroic that bus driver was like she didn't even care that she had to risk her own life 2 save someone she barely knew idk wut most ppl would do in that situation but not her she just kept driving n stayed on the line till help arrived talk about a real lifesaver 
it's not just about saving lives, but also showing humanity in such chaotic situations... i remember when you could actually have conversations with strangers on buses without fear or worry 
now it's all about being hypervigilant all the time... anyway, I hope the victim's family finds some peace & closure soon

ugh, another crazy story like this... can't believe that person didn't even get to finish their ride 
and meanwhile the bus driver has PTSD from watching her passenger bleed out in front of her 
at least she tried to call 911 though, that's more than most people would've done 
but still, who gets shot by a stranger in broad daylight? this city is just getting weirder and weirder...
. I remember when i was younger, we didn't have all these guns and violence, it seemed like a safer place to live back in my day...

And what's up with these bus stops? They're like magnets for tragedy. Last week I saw someone get mugged on the Red Line... is it too much to ask for a safe commute? 
Not exactly the most comforting thought. At least the driver did her part though - we should be recognizing that, not just focusing on who's behind bars.

!!! I mean, who does that? Refusing to leave his side even when the ambulance arrived shows just how selfless and compassionate this woman is. And can you imagine what she must've been going through too?! 
We need to keep pushing for justice and making sure these kinds of incidents don't happen again. This bus driver's bravery is definitely a silver lining in an otherwise dark cloud
