City council speakers say they received calls from HPD before speaking out against the department

I gotta say, if the HPD is trying to silence these council speakers, that's messed up 🤔. But at the same time, if they're calling them just to offer a different perspective and help them see things from another angle, maybe it's not so bad 😐. I mean, we can't just assume their motives are evil without knowing all the facts, right? And what if some of these council members were already leaning in that direction, like Alondra was? Maybe they needed a little convincing 🤷‍♀️. But still, if it's intimidation and not constructive conversation, that's no good 🚫. Can't have freedom of speech being silenced by the authorities, but on the other hand, can we really blame them for wanting to understand all sides of an issue? 🤔

OMG 🤯 this is soooo concerning!! Like, the Houston Police Department needs to get their act together already! 🚨 Those speakers are just trying to do their job and speak out against policies that affect the community. It's not like they're speaking out for no reason. They have a right to express themselves and be heard.

And I feel bad for Alondra Andrade, she's literally being blackmailed by an HPD officer into staying quiet. That's not cool at all 🚫. It's like, if you want to address issues with the department, just do it in a respectful way, not try to intimidate people.

And I'm so with Carolyn Evans Shabazz on this one too 💁‍♀️. Like, the mayor's chief of staff needs to step up and help these council members feel safe while they're trying to do their job. This is all about protecting civil liberties and making sure everyone's voice is heard.

The HPD needs to show some accountability here 🙏. Like, if they're that worried about people speaking out, maybe they should be more transparent with their policies?

awww, this is soooo wrong 🤕💔, these ppl r bein bullied & silenced just 'cause they wanna speak out against somethin' they don't agree with. how scary must it b 2 have someone call u up 2 try 2 convince u otherwise... no one should b intimidated into keepin quiet 💁‍♀️🗣️ especially when its about protectin our civil liberties & freedom of speech 🤝. these ppl r braver than we think, Alondra's statement gave me chills 💪, she's right if they think it matters 2 show up & fight 4 what's rite... that's the kinda courage we need more of 😊

🚨 this is getting out of hand, imo 🤯 - these speakers are just trying to do their job & express their opinions, shouldn't they be able to do so without HPD breathing down their necks? 🙄 like, isn't that kinda the whole point of having a city council in the first place? 🗣️

I'm so mad about this! 🤬 Who do these cops think they are? Showing up at people's offices and trying to scare them into not speaking out against their invasive policies? It's like, no, we have a right to free speech! And what if it's not just the mayor's office that's involved? I bet there's more to this story. 🤔

I mean, can you imagine getting called by someone and being told that the police department is watching you? It's like living in a bad spy movie. 😬 And it's not like they're even trying to hide it anymore! The fact that Alondra got all these calls before she even took the stand shows how brazen they are.

I think it's awesome that she and Carolyn Evans Shabazz are speaking out against this, though. They're taking a stand for what's right, even if it means going up against the police department. We need more people like them! 💪

This is getting serious 🚨... I mean, I totally get why they're trying to silence people who speak out against surveillance policies, but come on! They think a quick call from an HPD officer is gonna make someone just back down? Like, Alondra Andrade has every right to express her concerns and if she's getting some kinda chill vibes from the other side, that's just as concerning. It's like, don't they want people to speak up? Isn't that what council meetings are for? 🤔
