Charlie Puth Wanted To Honor Whitney Houston With Super Bowl National Anthem

Charlie Puth's Super Bowl National Anthem: A Tribute to Whitney Houston

In a stirring performance, Charlie Puth paid tribute to the late Whitney Houston during the 2026 Super Bowl by putting his own unique spin on "The Star-Spangled Banner". The singer's rendition featured an impressive choral arrangement, accompanied by a Rhodes keyboard, choir, and orchestra.

Expressing gratitude to fans for their kind words after the event, Puth took to social media to share that his particular take on the national anthem was a deliberate homage to Houston. "I wrote the arrangement in a very specific way... I hope that was heard," he penned. The singer also extended heartfelt thanks to various musicians who joined him on stage, including the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir, Kenny G, and Steve Hackman.

Performing the national anthem has been a long-held dream for Puth, who hopes to showcase his vocal capabilities as a standalone artist. Despite some pre-performance jitters, the singer is confident that his rendition will be well-received by fans. "I feel like people don’t really think of me as a standalone vocalist at times... It’ll be pressure the week leading up to it and the hour leading up to it."

When asked about his creative process, Puth revealed that he often finds himself 'reverse engineering' his own music in his head before bringing it to life. Ultimately, his goal was to inspire fans with a powerful performance that would leave them feeling uplifted by the transformative power of music.

In his conversation with Apple Music's Zane Lowe earlier this week, Puth spoke about the importance of using his platform to spread inspiration and appreciation for music. "I want everybody to know that music is such an amazing thing and can change so many people’s lives," he said.

omg did u see Charlie Puth's Super Bowl rendition? i mean, i love him, but whispy vocals? 😂 just kidding, kinda serious tho... it was super emotional seeing him pay tribute to Whitney Houston 🎤💕 he really put his heart into it and got some amazing guest stars too 🙌 Kenny G on the sax? yeah, that's a mood 💃🏽 now let's be real, who else could pull off singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" with a full choir & orchestra? pretty sure i'm still listening to Whitney's version when he finished 😂

I don’t usually comment but I gotta say... Charlie Puth's rendition was really emotional 🙏! He put his heart into it and paid such a beautiful tribute to Whitney Houston, who was basically the queen of singing. I loved how he incorporated a choir and orchestra to give it that extra wow factor 💥. It's awesome that he took the risk to perform at the Super Bowl, even though it was his first time doing it solo. Fingers crossed it'll do well for him! And I gotta agree with him about music being life-changing - it always gives me goosebumps 😊.

Charlie Puth totally killed it at the Super Bowl with that Whitney Houston tribute 🎶🔥! I was on the edge of my seat when he brought out the choir and orchestra - it was like a whole different level of emotion came out of him 💖. And can we talk about how classy it was to pay homage to the legendary Whitney? The arrangement was so unique and special, it really made me think of Whitney's iconic performances 🕺. I'm not surprised he was nervous before performing, but honestly, I think he nailed it 😊. It's amazing how he wants to use his platform to spread inspiration through music - we need more artists like that in the industry! 🌟

Umm... I don't get why they had to use a Rhodes keyboard on the national anthem 🤔😂 like, it's not exactly the 80s anymore. Can someone explain me what that's supposed to do? And btw, have you guys seen those new iPhone 15 specs? 📱👀

OMG u guys I think Charlie Puth's Super Bowl performance was SO beautiful 🎶🙌, it really showed how much he respects Whitney Houston and paid homage to her legacy. And I love how he used his platform to spread positivity & inspire fans with music 💖. I'm not a huge fan of the Star Spangled Banner but this version was different and I felt uplifted 😊. Can't wait to see what he does next 🎵

omg i'm so hyped for charlie puth's super bowl performance 🎉🎶 i think it's awesome that he paid tribute to whitisnouston like that, it shows he respects the queen of R&B 💖 and his unique spin on "the star-spangled banner" is gonna be lit 🔥 cant wait to hear more of his music now, he's got some big shoes to fill but i think he's up for the challenge 🎸 gotta give a shoutout to all the musicians who joined him on stage too, they added that extra special something 💕 what's even more inspiring is that charlie wants to use his platform to spread inspiration and appreciation for music - we need more people like that in the industry 🌈

omg I think Charlie Puth was way off with his arrangement 🙄 it sounded like a generic singer trying too hard to be emotional instead of actually owning the performance 💔 I mean I get that Whitney Houston is an icon, but couldn't he have just done her justice instead of trying to put his own spin on it? 🤷‍♀️ it's not like we needed him to make it about himself 😒

omg i was literally shook by charlie puths super bowl national anthem 🤩🎵 he totally nailed it, especially considering how big shoes to fill whitney houston was... but charlie did his own thang and made it sound so beautiful 😊 the choral arrangement & rhodes keyboard combo was everything! i also love that he gave props to the choir, kenny g, and steve hackman for joining him on stage 🙏 can't wait to see what's next for this talented artist 👀

🤕 Super Bowl vibes are overrated anyway... just saw a video of some puppy found under a house with 17 legs 🐶💀, guess that's what happens when you don't have enough love in the world 🌎. Charlie Puth's performance was nice, I guess, but who cares when there's more important things to worry about, like how climate change is still gonna be a major problem by 2050? 🌪️ Not exactly inspiring if you ask me... 😔

🤦‍♂️ So Charlie Puth thought it was a great idea to put his own spin on the national anthem... like, I get it, he's trying to pay tribute to Whitney Houston, but can't we just stick to singing "America The Beautiful" next time? 😅 And honestly, who thought Kenny G was a good addition to this performance? 🎺 Just saying. Anyway, I'm glad Puth is pushing himself out of his comfort zone, but maybe he should focus on writing some decent songs instead of trying to sing the national anthem 🙃

omg u guys i am literally SHAKING right now just thinking about charlie puth's performance at the super bowl i mean the man brought TEARS TO MY EYES with his rendition of the national anthem it was like HE WAS WHITNEY HUSSLE IN THE SKIN lol idk how he did it but that arrangement with the choirs and orchestra was pure MAGIC i love how he paid homage to the queen herself Whitney Houston it's clear he put his heart and soul into that performance and it showed so much passion and emotion, i'm already getting chills thinking about it 🙌🏽😭

omg i felt so bad for charlie puth upping the whole national anthem vibe but honestly his collab with kenny g was kinda lit 🤩 anyway idk why ppl were salty cuz its not like hes trying to replace whitis voice or anything, he's just paying tribute and showing appreciation for her legacy. his performance was beautiful & i loved how it featured a choir & orchestra - the whole thing felt so majestic ✨

Lmao what was Charlie thinking singing national anthem on Super Bowl 🤣 I mean I get it, tribute to Whitney Houston but come on it's not like he was performing at a concert or anything 🎤 I'm sure the whole world was just waiting for him to sing that iconic song 💁‍♂️. And btw I don't blame the guy for wanting to show off his skills, but maybe try something new next time? 😅

😊 I feel like Charlie Puth did a decent job paying tribute to Whitney Houston, but honestly it was kinda cheesy at times... his voice is pretty good, don't get me wrong 🎤. I'm curious tho, why did he need to do this in the middle of the Super Bowl? couldn't have just done it as a regular performance? anywayz, i loved how many musicians joined him on stage 🎵! Puth's song arrangement was pretty cool too 👍

omg, Charlie Puth totally NAILED it 🤩🎉! I mean, singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl is HUGE, but putting his own twist on 'The Star-Spangled Banner' was pure GENIUS 💡. That choral arrangement and Rhodes keyboard combo was EVERYTHING 🔥! And can we talk about how amazing it was to see all those talented musicians joining him on stage? 😍 Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir, Kenny G, Steve Hackman... what a dream team! 🤝

I'm so here for Charlie Puth's passion project and his desire to showcase his vocal chops as a standalone artist 💪. He totally deserves this opportunity, and I'm sure it'll be a HUGE hit (pun intended 😉). Plus, his message about spreading inspiration and appreciation for music is SO relatable 🎵. Let's give it up for Charlie Puth, the #SuperBowlSuperstar 🌟!

omg u gotta imagine charlie puth up on stage with like a million ppl cheering 🤩 & then singing the national anthem... i mean it's always gonna be a risk doin that, but at least he got to pay tribute to whithney houston in such an epic way 💕. i love how he said he wrote it specifically for her & not just as some generic performance 😊. and can we talk about the choir & orchestra part? 🎶 it's like a whole different song, but still so patriotic 🇺🇸

the whole super bowl national anthem performance was actually pretty cool 🤩 i mean charlie puth put a unique spin on it but still managed to pay tribute to whiteny houston properly ❤️ the choral arrangement with rhodes keyboard and choir added a nice depth to the performance... and it's awesome that he gave shoutouts to the musicians who joined him on stage 🙏 kenny g is always cool and oakland interfaith gospel choir brought an amazing vibe to the table 🎤

🤩 I'm loving Charlie Puth's Super Bowl National Anthem performance! 🎶 He really paid tribute to Whitney Houston in a beautiful way, don't you think? 😊 The stats on his performance are crazy - 45 million views on YouTube in the first 24 hours alone! 📈 Also, did you know that this is one of the most-watched Super Bowl halftime shows of all time? 🏆 It had over 102 million viewers in the US! 🌟 The demographics were pretty interesting too - it was a mix of young and old, with 52% of viewers between 25-44 years old. 📊

Omg yaaas Charlie Puth slayed the Super Bowl with that tribute to Whitney Houston 💥🎤! I mean, who wouldn't wanna see a powerful voice like his on the biggest stage? And that choral arrangement was EVERYTHING 🔥🎶 - I'm still giving it a few days to process, but honestly, he totally killed it! 👏 Can we talk about how amazing it is for him to take a chance and showcase his vocal skills as a standalone artist? It's all about spreading inspiration and appreciation for music, you know 🌟🎵
