Brandi Carlile Returns to ‘SNL’ to Perform Songs From ‘Returning to Myself’

Brandi Carlile returned to Saturday Night Live (SNL) on November 2 with a powerful performance of her new songs "Church & State" and "Human", both from her latest album 'Returning to Myself'. This marks Carlile's fourth time as musical guest on the show, and her second appearance this year.

Carlile delivered two emotionally charged performances, showcasing her soulful voice and raw energy. The setlist included a haunting arrangement of "Church & State," co-written with producer Andrew Watt and longtime collaborators Phil and Tim Hanseroth. The song's lyrics captured the essence of a "failing empire" and sociopolitical unrest.

The show also featured Carlile singing her soaring ballad "Human", which reflects on vulnerability and resilience. The song is also the title of her upcoming Human Tour, set to kick off in February 2026. This album is Carlile's eighth studio effort, released on October 25, marking her first solo LP since 2021's 'In These Silent Days'.

Carlile's latest project has cemented her status as a central figure in American roots and rock music. She has remained active in the industry, curating music festivals, forming the country supergroup The Highwomen, and collaborating with legendary artists like Elton John, Joni Mitchell, and Tanya Tucker.

The SNL appearance is part of Carlile's busy October schedule, which included performing at Joni Mitchell's 'Joni Jam' at the Hollywood Bowl and announcing her return to Europe in fall 2026 after the North American leg of her tour.

They're like, so relevant to what's going on in the world rn 🌎. And her voice? *swoon* She's just got this insane range and control... I'm not even mad she broke out into that soaring ballad "Human" 🤩. Anyway, can't wait for her Human Tour and for me to finally see her live! 😆

I don't usually comment but... I was listening to Brandi Carlile's new album while reading this article and I gotta say, she's been on fire lately! Her soulful voice is just mesmerizing, you know? And it's amazing how she can convey such depth of emotion through her music. I love that she's not afraid to tackle tough topics like sociopolitical unrest in "Church & State". It's like she's speaking truth to power, but in a really beautiful way 🎸. And I'm so down for her Human Tour - I've already got my tickets (in my mind, lol) 😂. omg i just had the craziest dream last night about a giant cake with buttercream frosting that tasted like strawberry shortcake 🍰👀 it was so vivid i swear i could smell the sweetness waking up this morning and now all i can think about is baking one for my family's sunday brunch 👫 anyway back to Brandi Carlile, i loved her performance on SNL she has such a powerful voice and energy 💪 but have you guys ever noticed how some indie artists never seem to take breaks from touring? like brandi carlile has been on the road nonstop since 2021 🚗🌳 maybe we need more rest for our musicians so they can keep inspiring us with their music 😴

omg I'm so done with Brandi Carlile's new album its gonna be like every other folk-rock record out there 🙄, nobody original anymore...and can we please move on from this whole "soulful voice" hype, every singer thinks they have that but can she actually write a song? her collaborations are getting more and more interesting tho maybe that's where the magic happens for once 🤔

lol just watched brandi carlile's snl comeback 🤩 and i'm totally impressed! her stage presence is always on point, but these new songs "church & state" and "human" took it to a whole other level 💥 she's like the queen of emotional depth in songwriting, you know? and that setlist was perfection - haunting and soaring all at once 🎶 what i love most about brandi is how authentic she stays, still curating music festivals and collaborating with legends... she's the real deal 😊 her album 'returning to myself' is a masterpiece, can't wait for the human tour in 2026 🎟️

I'm telling you, something fishy went down with Brandi Carlile's SNL performance 🤔🎸. I mean, what's up with all these coincidences? She just so happens to return to SNL on November 2, the same day that some major financial transactions were made in the music industry... and it just so happens that she's got two new songs coming out! It's like they're trying to distract us from something 🤑. And have you noticed how her album 'Returning to Myself' is released on October 25? That's no coincidence, folks! It's a clever marketing ploy to get people talking while the government does its thing... or so I think 😉. Anyway, Carlile delivered an amazing performance, but I'm still keeping an eye on this one 🎭.

Man 🙌 I was listening to Brandi Carlile on the radio back in 2007 and she was still playing those folk-rock gigs at the Grand Ole Opry 🎸. I remember thinking she had something special, but I didn't know what to make of it yet. Fast forward to now and she's one of the biggest names in music! I love how she's been keeping it real with her lyrics about politics and social justice - we need more artists speaking truth like that 🗣️. And can we talk about that voice? It gives me chills every time 😍. She's still rocking out at 40, what's wrong with getting older, right? 😉

🎸 Brandi Carlile is like a rockstar or something! I love how she uses music to speak out against the world issues, it's so inspiring 💖 her voice is literally soulful and raw energy is infectious 🤩

I also think its cool that she has a super diverse discography, from country to folk to rock, she can do it all 🎶 I've been listening to her latest album nonstop since October 25th release day 📆

Can't wait for her Human Tour in Feb 2026, I'm sold on the title track already 💪 what's your take on "Church & State", do you have a fave from the album? 🤔

omg what a fantastic comeback for Brandi Carlile on SNL 🤩! I mean who else can rock that stage like she does? 😎 the way she poured her heart out on those new songs "Church & State" and "Human" was just SO emotional ❤️, you could feel the raw energy and vulnerability. And let's be real, that setlist was perfection 💯 i love how it showed off her incredible range as a singer. I'm beyond excited for her upcoming Human Tour - can't wait to belt out those songs live 🎤 and see what else she has in store for us. She's still killing the game after all these years 👏

I'm loving Brandi Carlile's latest show on SNL! 🤩 She totally owns that stage with her soulful voice and raw energy. I mean, have you heard "Church & State"? That song is like a battle cry for the times we're living in 🗣️ It's so powerful to see an artist using their platform to speak out against injustice.

I'm also loving how she's pushing boundaries with her new album "Returning to Myself". She's not afraid to get real and honest about her experiences, which is something that's really resonating with people right now. And let's be real, the fact that she's still going strong after all these years is just a testament to her talent and dedication 🙌

OMG I'm still reeling from Brandi Carlile's SNL performance 🤩!!! She totally killed it! The way she poured her heart out on stage, singing those powerful songs about social justice and vulnerability... *gets chills* 😍 Her voice is just so emotive and raw, you can feel the passion and energy emanating from her. And that setlist was perfection - who else could make a song like "Church & State" sound so hauntingly beautiful? 🎶 I'm loving the new album 'Returning to Myself' too, it's like she's finally found her voice after all these years of experimenting with different styles. Anyway, can't wait for her Human Tour in Feb 2026 - fingers crossed I get tickets! 🎟️

OMG u guys Brandi just SLAYED SNL 🤯💥 She brought so much energy & emotion to that stage it was like she was speaking straight to ur soul! Those new songs "Church & State" and "Human" r like a fusion of her roots & rock vibes & they're SO powerful 🎸🌪️ I'm low-key obsessed with that haunting arrangement of "Church & State". Brandi's been killing it in the music scene for years, but this performance just proved she's still got it 🔥 Can't wait 4 her Human Tour in Feb!

Just saw Brandi Carlile kill it on SNL 🤩🎸. Her voice is still giving me chills, been following her since she was a folk singer in the Pacific Northwest 🌳. It's crazy to see how she's evolved as an artist, still rocking that soulful sound but now with more edge and confidence 💁‍♀️. The fact that she's killing it at 40 is proof that age is just a number, not something to be afraid of 😏. SNL always gets the best out of her, and this time was no exception 🎤.

omg i'm still reeling from brandi carlile's saturday night live performance 🤩 she literally gave me CHILLS with her powerful vocals and raw energy 💖 it's clear why she's a central figure in american roots and rock music - her passion and conviction shine through in every note 🔥 her setlist was so well-curated, from the haunting arrangement of "church & state" to the soaring ballad "human" 🌟 i love how her music reflects on vulnerability and resilience - it's like she's speaking directly to your soul 💕

I'm not convinced about these new-fangled music festivals she's curating... sounds like just another way for artists to make a quick buck off their fans 🤑. What's next, concerts on Mars? Give me a good ol' fashioned live show any day! And what's up with all these supergroups? The Highwomen seems cool and all, but it just means more noise and less original music 😐. I mean, I love Brandi Carlile's soulful voice and all, but can't she just stick to her own stuff for once?

omg i was so hyped when i heard she was coming back to snl!! 🤩 i loved the vibe of her performance, especially with church & state... it gave me chills lol. i've been listening to 'Returning to Myself' nonstop and can't wait for the human tour 🎟️. brandi carlile is literally my spirit animal and i think she's been quietly killing the music game for years 😏 anyway, can't believe it's already march 2025 and i'm still recovering from her snl debut last year 😴
