As their midwinter slump goes on, what exactly is going wrong at Manchester City? | Jamie Jackson

Manchester City is going through a midwinter slump that has left fans and pundits alike scratching their heads. The Citizens, who are often touted as one of the top teams in the world, have now gone 10 league games without a win, with Saturday's 2-0 loss to Manchester United being the latest low point.

The problem seems to be multifaceted. Midfield maestro Rodri is still recovering from an 18-month injury layoff and appears to be laboring on the pitch, often unable to do what he did with ease pre-injury. His lack of form has been highlighted in their last two games against Bodø/Glimt and Manchester United, where he was left a one-paced, non-factor.

Erling Haaland, the prolific goal-scorer who has consistently found the back of the net for City, is also going through a slump. The Norwegian striker has now gone eight games without scoring outside of the penalty spot, with his last goal coming against West Ham in January. His form has been so poor that he was described by Haaland himself as "embarrassing".

The team's manager, Pep Guardiola, seems perplexed by the current situation and is grasping for explanations. In his post-game press conference, he cited injuries to several key players, including Josko Gvardiol, Rúben Dias, and John Stones, as a factor in the team's struggles. He also mentioned that the team's performance was better against Bodø/Glimt than United, but ultimately couldn't capitalize on their chances.

Midfielder Phil Foden is another player who seems to be struggling with his form. The 21-year-old has only scored two goals this season and provided one assist, with his last creative moment coming eight days ago. His performance against Bodø/Glimt was poor, and he was substituted at halftime of the derby defeat.

On the plus side, City have signed a promising young defender in Marc Guéhi. The 25-year-old has impressed for Crystal Palace and England, and Guardiola believes that Guéhi's arrival could be just what his team needs to kickstart their season. With Guéhi joining forces with Abdukodir Khusanov in the middle of the defense, City may finally have found a solid partnership to cover for the absences of Gvardiol and Dias.

As the midwinter slump shows no signs of abating, City fans will be hoping that Guardiola can find a way to get his team back on track. With several key players injured or struggling with form, the pressure is on the manager to come up with a solution. If he fails to do so, the consequences could be severe in the run-up to April and May when the title, Champions League, and FA Cup all come into focus.

Man City's midwinter slump is a real head-scratcher 🤔. I mean, they're supposed to be one of the top teams in the world, but right now, it feels like they're stuck in neutral. Rodri's injury layoff has been a major blow, and when he's on the pitch, he's just not the same player we've seen before 🤦‍♂️. And Haaland's slump is concerning - the guy's normally a goal-scoring machine, but now he's looking like he's stuck in a rut 📉.

Pep Guardiola's trying to play it cool, saying that injuries are to blame and that they just need to capitalize on their chances better 💪. But at this point, I think we've all seen enough to know that something more is going on here 🤔. Foden's form is also pretty sketchy, and Guéhi's arrival might just be the spark they need to get back on track 🔥.

The good news is that City are signing some decent talent, and with Guéhi and Khusanov in the defense, maybe they can shore up those absences 🚧. But if Pep can't find a way to get his team firing on all cylinders soon, it's going to be a long second half of the season ⏰. The pressure is definitely on!

I'm lowkey worried about City 😬🤔 They've been on top of their game for so long, but now they're just meh 🙄 Their midfield is a mess 🤯 Rodri's injury is definitely affecting the team, and Foden's form is pretty weak 💔 But on the bright side, Guéhi looks like he could be the answer to their prayers 🎉💪 A solid defense can make all the difference, especially with Gvardiol and Dias out for a while 👍

🤔 It's like City's season has been put on hold... 10 games without a win is crazy! They're usually so dominant, but now they're struggling to even create chances. Midfield is killing them, with Rodri not being himself and Foden's form being a disaster. 😴 Haaland's slump is also super worrying - he's always been their go-to guy for goals.

I think Pep needs to take a closer look at his tactics and see what's working and what's not. Maybe they need to change up their midfield setup or give players more freedom on the pitch. And with Guéhi joining the team, maybe it'll be the spark they need to get back on track! 💡

I feel like City's slump is more than just injuries 🤕. They've got some top players who are struggling, like Haaland & Foden. I think Pep needs to mix up their tactics a bit. He's been relying too much on the same old strategy and it's not working anymore 🔄. Plus, they need to sort out their midfield - Rodri's form is just not there right now 🤦‍♂️. But you know what? I'm still confident in City! They've got some quality players like Guéhi who could bring a new level of energy to the team 💪. Maybe Pep can find a way to get them firing on all cylinders again 🔥.

OMG u gotta feel 4 Man City 🤕 they're literally struggling 2 bgs 2gthr rn 😩 Pep's lost his magic or watever 😅 mid season slump is real tho...Rodri & Haaland r not performin @ thir best, it's like they're stuck in 1 pace lol...Phil Foden's form is straight trash 🚮 and the team's defense is all over th place 🤦‍♂️ BUT! 🙌 Marc Guéhi might b th answer 2 their prayers 💡 he's a beast on th pitch & Abdukodir Khusanov's got skills 2 😎 so fingers crossed Pep finds a way 2 get them back on track 👍

omg this is so sad 🤕 manchester city is like my fave team ever but they're having a super bad patch atm i mean what happened to rodri? he was so good before he got injured 🤔 and erling haaland too, i've been scoring those goals on fifa for years lol. pep guardiola seems really confused, i'd be like "guys we're not winning why dont u just change the formation or something?" 😂 but seriously, it's a big concern for the team. they need to find a way to get their form back and win some games ASAP 🏆

oh man i just watched that last city game 😅 and i'm still trying to figure out what happened 🤔 they have such a talented team but somehow they're having this huge midwinter slump 🌪️ it's like they lost their mojo or something 💫 anyway i feel bad for haaland tho he's been on fire last season but now he's just not scoring 🎯 and erling's comments about being "embarrassing" made me laugh 😂 maybe pep should try to get some of that magic back from rodri? 🤞

man, manchester city is like totally lost right now 💔🏆 their midwinter slump has got everyone scratching their heads, even pep guardiola is trying to figure out what's going on 🤯 rodri's injury layoff seems to be having a major impact, and erling haaland's form is just not what we're used to seeing from him 😒 marc guéhi might be the answer though - he sounds like a solid addition to the team! 👍 his arrival could finally bring some stability to the defense with abdukodir khusanov... fingers crossed that pep can get his team back on track 🤞

🤔 Manchester City's midwinter slump is like me after a bad Netflix binge... it's a mess! 🍿😴 I mean, 10 games without a win? That's like trying to find a decent coffee shop in London with a broken map 😅. Rodri and Haaland are going through a slump, but I guess you can't blame them for being a bit "off" after 18 months of injury rehab 🤕. Pep Guardiola is scratching his head like me when I realize I left the stove on at home 🔥. On the bright side, Marc Guéhi might be just what they need to kickstart their season... or maybe he'll just become the new hero and save the day like in a Marvel movie 🦸‍♂️!

I think City's slump is more than just injuries and player form, you feel me? 🤔 They're relying too much on Haaland's goals, which isn't sustainable. And let's be real, Foden's been struggling to make an impact since his return from injury 💔. Meanwhile, Guéhi's arrival could be a game-changer if he can pair well with Khusanov 👍. But what really worries me is that City are still playing some of the best football I've seen them play all season 🏃‍♂️... before their form completely tanked 😴. The problem now is that Guardiola's got to find a balance and make sure his team doesn't lose any more momentum while they're rebuilding 👊.

🤔 City's struggles are real 😩 Manchester has been one of the top teams for years, but now they're stuck in a rut 🔄. I think Pep needs to rework his strategy & get these players back on track ASAP 💪 Rodri and Haaland need to find their form again or else it'll be a long winter for City fans 😟. But on a positive note, that new signing Guéhi is looking promising 🤩 hopefully he can bring some stability to the defense 👍. The question is will Pep be able to get his team out of this slump? ⏰

I'm not buying that injuries are the sole reason for City's slump 🤔. I mean, Rodri's been out for 18 months, but he's still supposed to magically return to his pre-injury form? And Haaland's slumping is just a coincidence that happens to all great strikers at some point? 😒

I also don't think Pep's explanation about the team's performance being better against Bodø/Glimt than United holds water. If they couldn't capitalize on their chances, what does that say about City's overall strategy? 🤷‍♂️ And what about Foden's form? He's been struggling for months now, and it's not just about one bad game.

On the other hand, I do think signing Guéhi is a good move. He seems like a solid addition to the defense, and if he can help stabilize that position, maybe City will start to find their footing again 🤞. But until then, I'm reserving judgment on this slump. What's the source for these stats on Haaland's goal drought? 📊

🤔 so pep's saying injuries are the issue but like, rodri was playing just as poorly before his injury lol what changed? 🤷‍♂️ also haaland's slump is crazy he's been scoring goals in like 10 games straight without him getting a sniff outside the box it's weird. and foden's form is meh idk what's going on with that kid 😐 but hey signing guéhi might just be the push city needs 💪 i mean, they've got some decent defenders now so if they can get their midfield sorted maybe they'll get back to winning ways 🏆

Man, 10 games without a win is crazy for City 🤯! They're supposed to be one of the top teams in the world, but right now they just look lost ⚽️. I think it's not just about the injuries, though - Rodri and Haaland are struggling with form, and that's not something you can just fix overnight 🙅‍♂️. Pep needs to get creative with his squad selection and tactics if he wants to turn this around 🔍. And maybe it's time for a fresh face like Marc Guéhi to come in and shake things up? 😊

man... what's goin' on at Man City? they're supposed to be the team to beat but now they're strugglin like crazy 😔. i remember when we used to have this team that'd just win everything without breakin a sweat, and now it feels like they're stuck in neutral 🚗. erling haaland's slump is killin me, he was always so clinical on the pitch 🏃‍♂️. i'm glad pep's tryin to find solutions tho, but 10 games without a win is crazy 🤯. we need city to turn it around ASAP or they might get left behind in the title race 💨.

Wow 😂 City's struggles are real! With key players injured or off form, you'd think they'd still have a good chance of winning, but nope! 💔 Their midfield is basically non-existent right now and their strikers aren't even scoring goals outside the penalty spot? That's like a nightmare for any football team. And Pep just doesn't seem to be getting it... 🤷‍♂️

What's going on with Manchester City?! 🤯 They're supposed to be one of the best teams in the world but now they're struggling big time 😩. I mean, Rodri and Haaland aren't even doing what they used to do, it's like they're just phoning it in 💔. And Pep is all like "oh, injuries" 🤷‍♂️, that's not gonna cut it mate! They need to sort out their midfield and defense ASAP ⏰ or else they'll be left behind by the other top teams. I'm starting to think Guéhi might be just what they need to get back on track though 💡, so fingers crossed for him! 🤞

I think Pep Guardiola has his work cut out for him 💪🏽👀 City's slump is real and it's not just about the injuries 🤕, Haaland and Foden need to step up their game too ⚽️! The signing of Guéhi could be a game changer 🎯 but can Guardiola trust his bench players? 😬 This midwinter slump is testing everyone's patience 🔥

I'm telling you, this Manchester City team reminds me of the '04 Chelsea team that was also going through a rough patch... they eventually turned it around with a few tweaks and some fresh blood 🤔. Now, I know Pep Guardiola is one of the best managers in the world, but even he can't magic up wins on his own ⚽️. The problem seems to be that Rodri's injury has exposed their midfield weakness, and Haaland's slump has made them rely too much on set pieces 🤯. I mean, you gotta get a run of form going before you start relying on goals from 25 yards out 😅. Anyway, Marc Guéhi is definitely a bright spot in this season... remind me of that young defender from Ajax who came to City back in '09 🙄. Fingers crossed they can turn things around before it's too late 🔮
