A house for Andrew while thousands sleep rough | Letters

The Royal Family's Generosity Falls Short as Homeless Britons Suffer.

Four thousand seven hundred and eleven people were forced to sleep rough on London streets between July and September 2025, with two thousand one hundred sixteen of these individuals struggling with homelessness for the first time. This statistic starkly contrasts with the lavish lifestyle enjoyed by members of the royal family. The king alone receives a sovereign grant of £132.1m, while the Crown Estate boasts assets worth £15bn.

Moreover, Prince Andrew is set to receive a generous stipend from his father, the monarch, for occupying one of the estate's luxury residences. Instead of providing financial support, the royal family could offer him employment opportunities on the estate itself, creating good-paying jobs such as tour guides, cleaners, or gardeners. This approach would not only provide Andrew with a sense of purpose but also allow him to contribute to society.

A more practical and symbolic gesture from the royal family might be stripping Prince Andrew of his naval title, which he was recently stripped of, in favor of retaining the title of vice-admiral – an honor that carries less significance and prestige. This would serve as a form of penance, acknowledging the prince's past transgressions.

It is striking to consider the contrast between the royal family's wealth and the struggles faced by many ordinary Britons, including those suffering from relative poverty. With assets worth £1.1bn and annual profits of £22.9m, the Duchy of Cornwall alone could provide employment opportunities for hundreds of people on the national living wage.

The decision to offer Prince Andrew a residence at The Folly on the Sandringham estate has been criticized as extravagant and purposeless, mirroring the very definition of "folly" – large, unnecessary structures. In contrast, creating jobs on the estate could provide tangible benefits for both individuals and society at large.

😔 This is a really sad stat 📉 4711 people struggling to find a roof over their head in London is just too much 🤯. The royal family's wealth is mind-boggling 💸 £132.1m for the king alone! Meanwhile, ordinary Brits are barely scraping by 😕. It's time for them to give back more than just lip service 💋. Prince Andrew getting a stipend instead of a job seems like a waste 🤷‍♂️. Stripping him of his naval title might be a better idea 👊. And what about the Duchy of Cornwall? They could create hundreds of jobs on the national living wage 🏦💼. This is a classic case of "royal foolishness" 😂 - time for a change! 💪

I don’t usually comment but I feel really uncomfortable with how rich the royal family is compared to people struggling on our streets 🤯💸. Like, £132m a year is a LOT of money and it’s just not right that some people have so much while others are homeless or can't afford basic things.

And what’s up with Prince Andrew getting a free place to live for doing nothing? 🙄 I don’t think it's cool that he gets to hang out in luxury homes when there are actual people struggling. It would be way better if they helped him find a job on the estate, like a tour guide or something. That way, he could actually contribute to society and make a difference.

I'm also kinda bummed that they still have all this wealth but it's not being used for good 🤔. Like, the Duchy of Cornwall has £1.1bn just sitting there... that's like a small city! They should be creating jobs and helping people out instead of giving money to people who don't even need it.

I guess what I'm saying is, can we please use some of their wealth for good? 🤗 It would make me feel so much better knowing that they're using their privilege to help others.

😩 I'm like so done with this royal fam drama 🤯 Like, can't they just use some of that £132.1m to help out people who actually need it instead of living their best lives 💸? It's literally two thousand one hundred sixteen people struggling for the first time sleeping rough in London 🌃 And what do we get from the royal family? Prince Andrew getting a luxurious residence 🏰 and a naval title 🚣‍♂️? No way, Jose 👋! Give him a job on the estate or strip him of his title altogether 💁‍♀️! The Duchy of Cornwall has £1.1bn to play with and they could make a real difference 💸💖

🤔 I mean, it's just crazy to see these royals living large while so many people are struggling to get by on the streets. I get that they're supposed to be role models and all, but come on, a £132m grant for one person? It's like, what's fair about that? 🤑

And Prince Andrew getting to stay in this fancy house just because he's his son is just ridiculous. Why not give him some actual purpose, you know? Like, offer him a job on the estate so he can contribute to society and all that jazz. That way, he's doing something good with his life instead of just collecting a paycheck.

I mean, stripping him of his naval title might be one thing, but it's not like it's going to solve anything. But seriously, if the royal family really wants to make a change, they should use their resources to help out people who are struggling. Like, the Duchy of Cornwall could be doing so much more with all that money. Creating jobs and paying a living wage would actually make a difference in people's lives.

And can we please talk about how extravagant this whole thing is? A big, unnecessary house just because it's "The Folly"? Come on! 🤷‍♂️

I gotta say, the royal family's wealth is straight-up staggering 😱. I mean, £132.1m? £15bn? Come on! Meanwhile, we got Britons struggling to make ends meet on the streets 🤕. It's like they're living in two different worlds.

And Prince Andrew getting a residence at The Folly? That's just a waste of money 💸. I mean, why not use that cash to create jobs and help people out instead of just giving it to some guy who's already got more than enough 🤑?

Stripping him of his naval title might be a decent move, but let's be real, it's not like he's gonna lose any sleep over it 😴. What they should do is use their influence to create actual change. Like, have them invest in the community or something. That'd be more meaningful than just giving people a pat on the back 🤝.

And can we talk about the Duchy of Cornwall for a sec? £1.1bn and annual profits of £22.9m? That's insane! 😲 They could easily hire hundreds of people and still have plenty left over. It's not like they're gonna go bankrupt or anything 💸.

I mean I just feel so bad for those homeless people in London, you know? 🤕 It's like they're literally struggling to survive while the royal family is over here living it up with their fancy grants and whatnot. And don't even get me started on Prince Andrew - I'm all for him finding a sense of purpose and contributing to society, but come on, giving him a stipend instead of jobs? That just seems like a huge waste of money in my opinion.

I was thinking the other day, if the royal family really wanted to make a difference, they could use some of that wealth to create jobs and opportunities for people who need it most. Like, the Duchy of Cornwall alone has tons of assets worth £1.1bn - can you even imagine how many people they could hire with that kind of cash? It's just crazy to think about how much more of a difference they could be making if they actually used their resources for good.

And honestly, I'm just so tired of the royal family's lavish lifestyle being seen as some kind of moral high ground. Newsflash: it's not okay to brag about your wealth and status while others are struggling to get by. It's time for them to put their money where their mouth is, you know? 💸
