'A god-tier new classic': first reactions to Wuthering Heights praise 'hot, horny' Emerald Fennell adaptation

Early Reactions to Wuthering Heights Adaptation Sizzle with Praise for "Hot, Horny" Approach

Critics are abuzz with excitement over Emerald Fennell's adaptation of Emily Brontë's timeless classic, Wuthering Heights. The film has been hailed as a modern masterpiece, boasting a potent blend of passion, destruction, and toxic desire that is sure to leave audiences spellbound.

Reviews have poured in, with many praising the film's expert capture of the novel's essence and its unapologetic approach to the subject matter. Courtney Howard succinctly summarized her reaction as "god-tier new classic", while another critic described it as a "beautiful mess of passion, destruction, lust, revenge, and unhinged behaviour".

Industry insiders are equally enthusiastic, with veteran film writer Anne Thompson predicting a strong box office performance and calling the film "a rip-roaring, bodice-ripping crowd pleaser". Box office pundit Scott Mendelson concurred, praising the film's big-budget production value and cinematic style.

Not everyone is enamoured, however. Brandon Norwood noted that the film is "a tad too long", but acknowledged the undeniable chemistry between its leads, Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie. Fennell herself has defended her approach to costume design and the casting of her lead actors, insisting that it's a personal take on the novel and one among many possible interpretations.

One potential point of contention is the film's anachronistic approach to costuming, as well as its apparent embracing of BDSM themes and the casting of white leads in roles generally associated with Romany origin. Fennell has sought to mitigate these concerns by highlighting the novel's own exploration of sado-masochism and the importance of exploring different perspectives.

Regardless, the film is shaping up to be a major event, with many critics and industry insiders hailing it as a bold, unapologetic reimagining of a classic. With its release date just around the corner – February 13th – fans are eagerly anticipating their turn on the edge of this intoxicating, transcendent, and tantalising tale.

omg i cant wait to see this adaptation of Wuthering Heights!! i've read the book like, a million times in school english class 📚👍 and i always loved how dark and dramatic it is. emerald fennell's take on it sounds SO intense i'm hyped for the chemistry between jacob elordi and margot robbie too 😘💕 but i do wonder if they're really gonna pull off the costume design... idk, some people might think its kinda weird to put modern clothes on 19th century characters lol. can't wait to see it tho!

I'm low-key hyped for Wuthering Heights 🤩! The film's got all the right ingredients - passion, destruction, toxic desire... it's like a slow-burning fire that'll leave you breathless 💥! But, I gotta say, 10/10 would've loved to see more depth in Catherine's character development 🤔. Maybe it's just me, but her storyline felt a bit rushed 🕰️.

Stats-wise, the film's already got a 92% Rotten Tomatoes score, with an average rating of 8.2/10 📊. And let's not forget the box office predictions - Scott Mendelson is calling for over $100M opening weekend 💸! But, what do you guys think? Is it a masterpiece or a mess? 🤔

🤔 I'm loving how some ppl r hailing Emerald Fennell's adaptation as a game-changer! The way she's tackling toxic relationships & desires is so refreshing. I think it's awesome that she's not afraid to get messy & explore the complexities of the characters. 💁‍♀️👗 But at the same time, I'm kinda curious about how they handled the Romany representation... 🤷‍♀️ Did they do enough to acknowledge the original author's inspiration from Romany culture? 💭

🤯 I'm low-key obsessed with how Emerald Fennell's adaptation is pushing boundaries with that 'hot, horny' approach 🍴❤️ it's like, totally necessary to modernize a 19th century novel and bring in some much-needed attitude 💁‍♀️ what I don't get is why some ppl are still gonna nitpick about the costuming and casting - it's all part of the reimagining, right? 🤷‍♂️ like Fennell herself said, it's just one possible interpretation... now can we talk about Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie's chemistry tho?! 🔥💔

omg u guys can't wait for wuthering heights but have u seen some of these costumes tho? like emerald fennell's idea of 'romany chic' is actually kinda cringeworthy 🙄 it's like she took every bodice-ripper cliche and mashed them all together into one big mess... and don't even get me started on the casting choices 😒 white leads playing 'romany' characters? come on, can't we do better than that?

omg i am literally SOOOO here for this wuthering heights adaptation!! 🤩 the way they've reimagined it is giving me LIFE, all that passion and destruction and toxic desire is just so raw and real 😍 i love how they're not holding back on the bdsm themes either, it's about time we see more of those in media. idk if some ppl are gonna get salty over the casting though, but honestly who cares if the leads are white? it's not like they're trying to erase anyone's identity 🙅‍♀️ Jacob and margot have that undeniable chemistry tho 💘 and emerald fennell's direction is just pure perfection. i mean can we talk about how this film is a masterpiece already?! 🤯

🤯 oh my god have you guys seen the trailer for the new Wuthering Heights adaptation?! it's like a wild fever dream come to life - the way they're capturing that toxic energy between Catherine and Heathcliff is just SO intense 💥 I'm low-key obsessed with Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie, they're like two burning pyres of passion 🌪️ but seriously can we talk about how Fennell is just a GENIUS for making this film? it's like she took all the angst and drama of the original novel and turned it into this beautiful, messy masterpiece 💖 I'm getting chills thinking about the costume design - who knew Emily Brontë was a fashion icon?! 😉

I'm low-key hyped for Wuthering Heights adaptation 🤩 but I gotta say, some parts of it feel kinda...problematic 😳. The way they're portraying the relationships between Catherine and Heathcliff is super intense, like, I get it, toxic love can be wild 💁‍♀️ but still. And have you seen the costumes? Like, I know Fennell's trying to modernize it but some of those outfits are straight outta a fantasy novel 🧛‍♀️. On the other hand, Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie do have that undeniable chemistry which is cool 😎. I'm also kinda curious about the anachronistic costuming thing...is it really meant to be a commentary on how we perceive historical romances? 🤔 IDK, need more info on this one 📚. Still, can't wait to see how it all comes together on Feb 13th! 💥

🤕 sounds like Emerald Fennell's adaptation is gonna be all about that toxic love life 💔 wuthering heights is a classic for a reason tho 🌪️ always thought it was 'bout how messed up heathcliff is 😂 guess the filmmakers are just makin' him look even more dodgy 👀 hope they don't get too carried away w/ the BDSM stuff though 👻

🤩 OMG have you seen that first trailer for Wuthering Heights? 🍿 I'm low-key obsessed with Emerald Fennell's bold take on the classic novel - it's like she took all the toxic emotions and poured them onto the screen 💥 The chemistry between Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie is undeniable, but I love how Fennell isn't afraid to get messy with the BDSM themes and costumes 🤪 It's definitely a bit of a wild ride, but I think that's what makes it so captivating 😏 Can't wait for February 13th - my tickets are already booked 💸

I'm low-key hyped for this Wuthering Heights adaptation 🤣! I mean, who doesn't love a good revenge story with some hot, horny drama thrown in? 😏 It sounds like Emerald Fennell's brought the heat with her bold approach to the classic novel. The fact that critics are already calling it a "god-tier new classic" is no joke 💁‍♀️! I'm curious to see how they tackled those anachronistic costume choices and BDSM themes, but if anyone can make them work, Fennell's got this 💪! And can we talk about the leads? Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie are like, totally meant to be 😍. Bring on February 13th – I'm ready to swoon over Heathcliff and Catherine all over again 🌹💘!

I'm totally with Brandon Norwood on this one 🙅‍♂️... I mean, who needs a film that's a tad too long when you've got a packed cinema and a hungry audience to satisfy? Give me more of that Wuthering Heights drama any day over some watered-down, 90-minute romp. And can we talk about how unnecessary the whole "emerging themes" thing is? Just make a good film and leave it up to the viewers to piece together what they want from it. I'm not buying into all this fuss about Fennell's 'personal take' on the novel... sounds like just another excuse for some folks to get worked up over nothing 😒

🎥 I'm so hyped for this Wuthering Heights adaptation! 🤩 It's been a while since I've seen anyone tackle this classic novel with such passion and audacity. The casting is on point btw - Jacob Elordi & Margot Robbie's chemistry is 🔥. But what really gets me excited is how Emerald Fennell is pushing boundaries by exploring themes like BDSM and Romany representation in a way that feels fresh & not tokenistic. Can't wait to see it on the big screen! 👏

I'm so stoked about Wuthering Heights! The trailer is giving me all these dark and moody vibes 🌑🔥 I mean, who wouldn't want to see Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie's characters get all passionate and toxic? 💁‍♀️😈 I think it's awesome that the director is taking risks with the costume design and BDSM themes - it's like she's not afraid to get a little wild and crazy 🔪💃 I'm also loving how the critics are praising the film for being bold and unapologetic, because let's be real, that's what makes Wuthering Heights such an iconic novel in the first place 💯

I JUST CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF THIS WUTHERING HEIGHTS ADAPTATION!!! IT'S LIKE EMERALD FENNELL TOOK A DEEP BREATH AND DIVED HEADFIRST INTO THE HEART OF THAT BROODLING ROMANCE AND CAME OUT WITH A FILM THAT'S TRULY UNFORGETTABLE!!! I MEAN, JACOB ELORDI AS CATHERINE'S ONCE-AND-FUTURE HUSBAND? GENIUS. MARGOT ROBBIE AS CATHERINE HERSELF? PURE PERFECTION. AND THAT COSTUME DESIGN?! FORGET ABOUT IT, IT'S LIKE EMERALD FENNELL TOOK EVERYTHING WUTHERING HEIGHTS IS KNOWN FOR AND TURNED IT ON ITS HEAD!!! I KNOW SOME PEOPLE MIGHT SAY IT'S A BIT TOO LONG OR ANACHRONISTIC, BUT HONESTLY, WHO CARES? THIS FILM IS LIKE A ROLLERCOASTER RIDE OF EMOTIONS THAT YOU'LL BE TUMBLED THROUGH FROM START TO FINISH!!! 😍

⭐👀 Wuthering Heights adaptation? More like Wuthering Hell 😂. Too much drama, not enough substance for me. They're trying too hard to make it sexy & provocative 🤢. I get that the novel's got its dark moments but this feels like a desperate attempt to stay relevant 💁‍♀️. Just gonna go see it anyway, but if I'm expecting a respectful adaptation of Brontë's masterpiece, I'm gonna be disappointed 😐

I'm totally obsessed with those new smartwatches right now 🕰️. I mean, have you seen how sleek they look? The way they integrate health tracking with fashion is genius! And the battery life is insane – I've had mine for weeks without needing to recharge it. But what really gets me excited is that they're starting to offer customization options... like changing the strap color 😎. It's amazing how something as small as a watch can feel so premium and high-end. And I heard Apple's planning to release an update with AI-powered fitness coaching... game changer, right? 🤖

omg i'm sooo late to the party lol i mean who needs reddit or twitter when you can comment on an article from feb 2023 ??! anywayz, gotta say im loving the renewed interest in wuthering heights - its such a classic for a reason 🙌 but at the same time idk if emerald fennell's take is doing it justice? i mean, i love jacob elordi and margot robbie, they're both amazing, but is this really the wuthering heights we know and love? maybe im just being nitpicky tho 😒

🤯 I'm loving how bold Emerald Fennell is with her adaptation! She's not afraid to get messy and raw with Wuthering Heights. The way she's tackled those toxic desires between Catherine & Heathcliff is giving me LIFE 💥 And I gotta say, that chemistry between Jacob Elordi & Margot Robbie is REAL 🔥 But yeah, some of the costumes might feel a tad out of place... it's like they're trying too hard to make a statement 🤷‍♀️ Fingers crossed for February 13th tho! Can't wait to get my hands on this sizzling film 😏
