Planning bill could risk UK's trade deal with EU, ambassador warns – sources

I don’t usually comment but... I think it's weird that the UK is trying to balance its economic growth with its environmental standards. On one hand, £9bn is a lot of money, but on the other hand, what's the point of growing the economy if we're destroying our planet at the same time? 🌎

I don't get why they need to "rebuild relationships" with the EU so badly, considering how much damage their current bill could do. Can't they just find a way to make environmental protection work alongside economic growth instead of one or the other? 💸 It's not like it's rocket science, right?

And what's with the nature recovery fund thingy? Sounds like a nice idea on paper but if it just means developers can build anywhere and pay a fee later, that's not exactly a solution. 🤔

I'm kinda surprised they're worried about this. Like, I get it, environment is important and all that 🌿, but £9bn? It's a big chunk of change, you know? I think we need to weigh our options here. Can't we just find a way to make the nature recovery fund work while still being competitive in terms of trade? It feels like the government's trying to have their cake and eat it too 🤔.

And honestly, if the EU is that concerned about environmental standards, maybe they should be more involved in setting them instead of lecturing us. I mean, we're not exactly getting a ton of help from Brussels on energy markets anyway ⚡️. The UK needs to find its own footing here and make some decisions without relying on EU handouts.

But at the same time... if this bill does end up undermining environmental protections, it's gonna be tough to explain that to future generations 🤷‍♂️. We need to get this right or risk regretting our choices later on.
