Top Senate Democrat blames 'heartless' Trump for food aid being cut off – as it happened

Senate Democrat Blames Trump for Food Aid Cut-Off as Shutdown Enters 29th Day

A day into a 29th day of the US government shutdown, Senate Democrats are calling out President Donald Trump for his administration's decision to cut off food aid funding.

Chuck Schumer, the Senate's top Democrat, labeled it "heartless" that the program would be discontinued due to the government shutdown.

The Congressional Budget Office predicts that the shutdown will negatively impact the economy but most of its damage will reverse once funding is reinstated. However, the economic disruption could result in losses worth between $7 billion and $14 billion.

🤔 Man, this whole government shutdown thing got me thinking... like, back when I was a kid, we had our share of budget fights too, but it wasn't all about Twitter drama and 24-hour news cycles. I mean, don't get me wrong, President Trump's gonna do what he thinks is best for the country, but come on, cutting off food aid? That's just... 🤕 harsh.

I feel bad for those families who are struggling to make ends meet, you know? It's like, can't we all just get along and find a way to compromise? 🤝 I guess that's just the optimist in me talking. Anyway, it's gonna be interesting to see how this whole thing plays out. Will Congress come together and find a solution before things get any worse? Only time will tell... 🕰️

Ugh, this is just so messed up 🤯! Like, can't we all just get along? I'm seriously worried about those people who are gonna be affected by this food aid cut-off 🍴😩. It's not like the US government doesn't have enough money, it's just a matter of priorities, right? And now they're going to leave thousands of people without access to food because of some disagreement between parties? It's heart-wrenching, man... I just wanna scream! 🤷‍♂️ The fact that Schumer is calling out Trump for this is not surprising, but still, it's a big deal. And don't even get me started on the economic damage - $7 billion to $14 billion? That's crazy! We need to get this sorted ASAP so people can focus on living their lives rather than worrying about where their next meal is coming from 🤕.

I don't know... I mean, can you blame Trump for cutting off food aid? Like, it's a total mess, right? 🤷‍♂️ But at the same time, is it really that heartless to cut spending on something that's basically just throwing money out the window? I mean, we already spend way too much on stuff, and this program was probably just a drop in the bucket. But then again, I guess some people might actually need that aid... 🤔 Like, what's the right thing to do here? Is it just about being compassionate or is there a way to make the system more efficient? Ugh, I don't have all the answers... 😩

I dont get why they cant just sort out their differences already... like a day into this shutdown thingy it feels like its been going on forever 🤯. Food aid funding? that sounds super important to me! Im not sure how cutting it off affects people who really need it, I mean what if they dont have any other way to get food? Its all very confusing 🤷‍♀️. And its only gonna cost like $7 billion or something... I bet there are worse things in the world than that 💸. But seriously, can we not just find a compromise and end this whole shutdown thing? It seems so pointless 🙄.

I think it's crazy that a food aid program would be cut off because of a government shutdown 🤯. Like, what even is the point of having a budget if you're just gonna cut stuff off without thinking about who gets hurt? 😔 It's not like we can just magically make more money appear out of thin air. The fact that it's being called "heartless" by Schumer is pretty fair, imo 👎. I get that Trump wants to make some changes, but cutting off aid to people who really need it? That's just basic human decency 🤝. And now we're expecting $7-14 billion in economic losses? Like, that's not even a fraction of what the government spends on other stuff each year 😴.

🤔 so like what's going on here? US government shutdown is crazy long already 29 days and it's still not over... 🕰️ food aid getting cut off which is bad news for a lot of people struggling to make ends meet. I get why Schumer is mad but come on, $7 billion to $14 billion loss... that's like a whole lotta money! 💸 how's the economy supposed to recover from that? and what's the plan here? are they gonna reopen the food aid program or what? 🤷‍♀️

omg I cant even imagine what its like for those families who rely on this food aid 🤯 its like theyre gonna just disappear from the system because of some political drama. I feel bad for the kids who have to go without school lunches now too...my school has a program where we volunteer to pack sandwiches and stuff for the food bank, it breaks my heart that there are people who cant even afford basic necessities. anyway i hope they can get funding reinstated ASAP so everyone can get back on their feet 💪

man this shutdown thingy is getting so old i feel bad for ppl who r losin their jobs or gettin affected by it 🤕 food aid is like a lifeline 4 those whos strugglin to make ends meet, cuttin it off is just cruel 💔 and its all cuz of politics...im not gonna name names but lets just say trump's admin is bein super reckless 🤑 Schumer's right it is heartless but what can u do? 🤷‍♂️ the econ impact is def a concern tho, $7-14 billion loss is no joke 💸 i hope they sort this out ASAP so ppl can get back to their normal lives 👍

I'm literally livin' this 😩 I don't get why politicians can't just agree on stuff... a shutdown over food aid? Like, what's next? 🤦‍♀️ It's so heartless to cut off funding for people who need it most. I know we should be fiscally responsible, but come on! There gotta be a better way to solve our problems than hurting the ones who are already struggling. And btw, have you seen the numbers they're talkin' about? $7-14 billion? That's like, a lot of money 🤑... guess it'll just add up to more debt and more headaches for the country 🤕

OMG 🤯 did u know that the US economy loses around 2% GDP every day during a shutdown? 📉 it's crazy how much of a hit it can take! 🤑 according to the CBO, those $7-14 billion losses could add up to like, what, $200-400 BILLION over the course of this 29th day shutdown? 😱 and that's not even counting the jobs lost or the overall morale hit on public servants 🤝

i feel for Schumer and the Senate Dems, though 🙏 cutting off food aid is just plain cruel 💔 it's like, come on, can't we all agree on something? 🤷‍♀️ meanwhile, Trump's approval ratings are taking a hit 📉 41% of Americans disapprove of his handling of the shutdown 🚫

btw, did u know that the Congressional Budget Office predicts most economic damage will reverse once funding is reinstated? 🔄 it's like, we're already past the point of no return here 🕰️
