CBP Searched a Record Number of Phones at the US Border Over the Past Year

im thinking its super weird that us is so chill about snoopin on ppl's phones at the border lol 55k searches in one year? thats just a lot of invasion of privacy if you ask me...and i cant help but wonder what makes these basic searches so necessary, like whats really being found that requires such invasive search methods? maybe its time for some reforms or better communication from the CBP?

I'm not surprised they're conducting more phone searches at the border. It's like they think everyone's hiding something . 17% increase is still a lot, but I guess it's to be expected when you have people scrutinizing every little thing . And yeah, the numbers are small compared to the whole number of visitors, but that just makes it more suspicious, if you ask me . I mean, what's really going on behind closed doors? The CBP always says they're following policy and procedure, but at the end of the day, it's about trust – or lack thereof . And with Trump's immigration crackdown, it's like they're trying to intimidate people into saying nothing . Not sure if I'd want to bring up my phone messages on a trip abroad anymore...
